The Century is a beautiful ship and so clean and well kept.
The embarkation was different than other lines we have been on. It seemed as though we had
to wait and wait to have our number called to begin the process.
In the past for us, when we arrived we were taken on almost immediately. On this we had to
sit or stand in a crowded room for about 2 hours and after flying all
day that was on the grueling side.
The port of San Juan is useless to us except that is where we stocked up on liquor and
soft drinks to take on board for our cabin. We brought two travel mugs
with us to mix our drinks in the cabin and carry throughout the ship except the dining
room of course. It really saves money and we always had ice in our cabins
and with the refrigerator there was not a problem.
St. Thomas is our favorite spot. We always take a cab to Magen's Bay (cost $5 per person).
The shore excursion there cost $17 per person which is really high
and plus if you go by cab you can stay as long as you want.
St. Martin we again took a cab to the French side and Marigot for $10 each way per person
in an air conditioned mini van. We have always found the cabs to be
cheaper on the islands versus the shore excursions and they are readily available both
going and the return trip.
Nassau for us was cancelled due to an air sea rescue of a woman that had a heart attack on
board and it threw us to far off course. That was a disappointment
to alot of people. The line gave us all a $25 per person ship credit which in all reality
was our port charges for Nassau. This could have been handled differently
to make the upset people happier, possibly free drinks for a couple hours, etc.. By
another sea day the ship made out like bandits with us all on board.
The cabins, (ours an inside) were lovely. We had a queen size bed with 2 nightstands and
space to walk around both sides of the bed. It had 2 huge closet and
lots and lots of drawer space and storage space under the bed, etc.. The bathroom was the
biggest on a ship we have seen and it had all the toiletries plus a
hair dryer. There were lots of mirrors on the walls which made the cabin look even larger
than it was. We have had both inside cabins and outside and we prefer
inside due to the cost factor and we are never in our rooms except to sleep and dress.
The food in the main dining room was excellent and we had a wonderful waiter and busboy.
The one annoying thing for us was there was a string quartet that
played through dinner and it was so loud. We were on the second floor of the dining room
so maybe the lower level was quieter.
The food at the lunch buffet was just adequate. Most items were overdone, salads good. We
ended up eating most of our lunches by the pool and it was really
good.
The disembarkation was the smoothest of any line we have sailed. They give you numbers
(ours was 4) and we were off and at the airport by 8:55 am and we
left the ship to collect our luggage at 8:35. Customs was a breeze!
We would certainly said the Century again and Celebrity lives up to it's 5 star rating.
