Let me say first that the cruise was good, but not great. We had high expectations going
in because family and friends had cruised on this particular ship
before. I will first list the good things and then the bad things. I do list more bad then
good (and go into detail) because reviews for this ship are mostly
listing the good elements of the cruise. I will also try to mention a few of the things I
was unsure or had questions about going in. Things that were good on
the cruise. The dinners in the dinning room were very good and very elegent with very good
service. One of the things I was curious about before my
cruise was what the menu was like, some of the things I enjoyed in the dinning room: pork
tenderloin, lamb chops, filet minon, lobster tail, halibut steak,
and New York strip steak. Some soups and appetizers: gumbo, shrimp scampi, asparagus soup
and cream of brocolli soup. Be sure to atend every dinner
in the dinning room. And also be warned the steaks are actually cooked to order. I always
say medium rare or well done because I want my steak Medium,
don't do that because your steak will be cooked to order. Some other good things were the
ship meetings that explain how to get off the ship at the
different islands, and where to shop and the disimbarkation procedures. And if you miss
the meetings you can watch replays of them in your room all the
time. In your rooms the showers are very nice and they all come with hairdryers (not very
powerful hairdryers but better than nothing). Another thing, is
that your room is cleaned 2 times a day usually in the afternoon (they know when you
leave) and when you are at dinner for the evening. And some other
good things were Singer, Pamela Blake singing showtunes - I'm not a showtune fan but she
really sang well and was entertaining. The frozen yogurt in
late afternoons was a must.
Now to some things that were not so good. There were about 200 kids ages 13-21 on the ship
- on spring break I imagine. Probably the time of year we
went and it was only a problem after 10:00 PM, and on deck during the afternoons. There
were kids in the casino, in nightclubs and on the deck and it just
got to be an annoyance. I was looking for more of an adult cruise. Be advised if you get
the key for the mini bar in your room, you get charged just to
open it even if you don't take anything from it. We took some Sprite and a few cans of
beer with us and put them in the mini bar refridgerator to keep cold,
but at then end of the week it showed up on the bill. I made an inquiry at Guest Services
and told her I had taken nothing from the minibar and just used it
to keep my own things cold and she said that you get charged just for using it (charge was
5.18 I believe, so it wasn't much but they could have said
something at the beginning). My biggest gripe - if you have late dinner seating there
isn't much to eat between 2:00 and 8:30. I thought there was food on
the cruise at all times but all there is to eat in the afternoons is pizza by the pool
(and the pizza is lousy) and hot dogs and hamburgers by the pool (the
burgers are better than McDonalds but not as good as Wendy's). I just would have expected
better food on a cruise than this. Lots of people were saying
the same thing the pizza isn't good, but there's nothing else to eat so at 4:00 there is a
huge line to get pizza and they can't keep up with it so they start
undercooking pizza that isn't very good to begin with. As I said earlier though the frozen
yogurt is good from 4:00 - 6:00. Room service was a limited
selection but I tried that route one afternoon and got a turkey sandwich - it came quickly
but was on par with the pizza and burgers. There were not
enough chairs on the upper decks on days at sea. A lot of people were getting towels and
laying on the deck itself. It seemed people were saving chairs,
coming up early and putting towels on chairs then little later sitting, then going to
lunch and leaving their towels then expecting to come back 2 hours later
to their chairs. We said enough and moved their towels and put our own towels down when a
group of four teenagers returned 1 and a half hours later
they just glared at us and left. The next day in the daily newsletter there was mention
not to save chairs for and extended period of time but that didn't
really seem to work. I don't want to go on too long so let me finish by noting that our
stateroom on deck 5, room 5060 was pretty noisy. You could hear
people talking in rooms next to you if they spoke loud and you could hear their televisons
if they were turned up loud. There were 3 days where the ship
shook very much it was difficult for EVERYONE to just walk down the halls without holding
on to something. (And you can ALWAYS tell when the ship is
moving even in good weather don't let people try to tell you differently.) When the ship
was rocking your stateroom creaked back and forth. Worse than
that there were kids (or someone) that ran everynight on the deck above our room down the
hallway. It was very loud and woke me everynight, the last
night was excessive and finally I went to Guest Services and politely told the girl that
this had been going on all night and all week. She said that she knew,
there were too many kids on the ship this week. I asked if there was something she could
do about it especially since she knew it was happening and she
said she would call ship's security and tell them to post someone up there. I would have
thought if she knew it was happening all week she would have
done something about it but that is the biggest problem with cruises - the crew cannot say
anything negative to passengers or they will get in trouble. So
the few people who are misbehaving will on occasion ruin it for everyone, because the crew
is to afraid to say - hey please don't do that. I hope this helps
people looking to go on a cruise with Celbrity. It was a good trip but not a great one.
