As a first time cruiser, I did not know what to expect. To my surprise, the overall
service on Galaxy was excellent. Staff
were always friendly, the food was terrific and there was always an activity in which to
participate at every moment of the
day or night.
Having not been on any other cruise ships, I do not know if this level of service and
attention to detail is normal, although
from what I understand it is not. On land, we usually lodge at 5 star resorts and I can
tell you we felt right at home. In
addition, as is the case at some high-end hotel properties, we never felt uncomfortable or
that any of the staff were
pretentious in any way.
There are, of course, some areas for improvement. As vegetarians, we were delighted to be
offered a separate and
distinct menu for dinner each night (that changed every day). However, we were somewhat
underwhelmed by the
choices available at midnight buffets. Several people in our group thought the tendering
process onto Catalina Island left
much to be desired. It was not explained how rough the sea was and it was a difficult
process especially for some of the
older travelers.
In addition, the production show quality was spotty -- and in general I would rate it on
the level of production numbers at
a theme park such as DisneyWorld. Not exactly what I would expect to see while sitting in
formal attire after eating a
five-star meal. Definitely some room for improvement here. According to Fielding's, the
shows are an A. I'd hate to see a
C or D.
Overall, a terrific experience and we will definitely be back on a Celebrity ship soon.
