We just came back from the Galaxy to see the total eclipse of the sun. It was our first cruise and we had a great time. We went specifically for the
eclipse and we were not disappointed. Even though we had many clouds and some showers on eclipse day, the captain took the ship out to sea and
successfully steered the ship between the clouds. My wife and I are not really cruise people, we prefer more basic travel, but I must say the Galaxy is
excellent in almost all areas except for one- cabin noise. We were in the aft, on the 8th deck. This area is above the engines and the Savoy Niteclub
lounge. At night you can hear the music, especially the bass, from the band one deck below, come through the floor. But the worst part is when the
ship pulls into port, which was every morning. There is tremendous noise and vibration from the engines. This noise starts around one to one and
half hours before the ship docks. I can best describe the vibration as 4-5 on the Reichter Earthquake scale. And I'm not exaggerating! The 8th deck
is not cheap, and it's well above the engines, but still the vibration was intense! I urge anyone booking the cruise to pay close attention to the cabin
position in the boat. Stay away from the aft (the back end) and only accept a cabin in the middle or forward (stern). But beware, the forward pitches
up and down more than the middle in rolling seas. Regarding space and staffing. I have to disagree with some other comments I've read on the
subject. We thought the ship was overstaffed and not understaffed as reported in one of the reviews. The ship was completely booked and never
once did we feel crowded or understaffed. It's a truly massive and beautiful ship and we had a great time even though we lost at least an hour of
sleep everytime it docked. Regarding entertainment, the highlight was Mario D'Andrea, a really fantastic guitar player.
