This was my third cruise and first time with Celebrity. Overall my husband and I really
enjoyed this cruise and will cruise with this line again, even though the
cruise did not exceed our expectations, unlike the promise of Celebrity's ad campaigns.
However, their cruise experience gives you more than your
money's worth. We flew in the day before the embarkation date, using Celebrity's air/sea
package. They flew us into Miami, which was fine, but, they put us
one of those shuttle buses to get us to our hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. The shuttle service
drops its passengers off in the most convenient route for the driver.
Consequently, because of where the other passengers on our shuttle bus had to be dropped
off, we were dropped off last about 2 hours after leaving the
airport. No instructions from Celebrity about when the bus was to arrive at the hotel the
next morning to take us to the pier. We ended up taking a free
shuttle offered by the hotel (Embassy Suites) to the pier. The embarkation process was the
worst part of the cruise (I knew from reading reviews of this line
of what to expect). Everyone gets dumped at the pier in Port Everglades and you have to
wait until your embarkation number is called before you can
board the ship. We got to the pier about 12 noon, but, were not given an embarkation
number nor were there any announcements to pick up one at the
door. We overhead some of the other passengers comparing their embarkation numbers, so
clued in and went up to the cruise staff at the front door to
pick up our numbers. Once aboard (embarkation started about 1:30 pm) everthing was much
better. We had an inside cabin on the deck no. 6, right
below the main show lounge. No problems with noise from any of the shows, other than a few
times when the dancers ran up and down the aisles.
Couldn't hear the music from the shows, except once at the beginning of an act. As for
cabin noises, only 1 or 2 nights where the cabin creaking was so
bad that it interfered with our sleep. The staff on this ship were for the most part
really great. Our stewardess, Izabella, our waiter, Vasile, and our bus boy,
Yilmaz, were wonderful and are the main reason we will cruise with this line again.
Excellent service and you never ever felt pressured about gratuities.
Our cabin was kept immaculate, and we were always offered extra portions of desserts,
breadsticks, or whatever they noticed we liked to eat a lot of. The
food quality wasn't always the greatest. A couple people at our table had bad quality,
i.e. tough, cuts of meat and fish, a couple of evenings. However, the
pastries, breads, and soups were always excellent. The food in the upstairs Coral Seas
Cafe (buffet) was always a good substitute for breakfast and lunch,
although the lines were often long when the ship was out at sea. The cruise we took was
sold out, but, one could always manage to get a lounger in the
sun, if not right by the pool, even at days at sea when this area was the most crowded.
The average age of the passengers on our sailing was 65+ (a
guess) although there were a fair number of younger couples and families with very young
children. The entertainment was so-so, better than Holland
America, not as good as Royal Caribbean (the other 2 lines I have sailed on). Overall, I
would recommend this ship and itinerary to anyone who wants a
relaxing, low-key 10 night cruise to 5 Southern Caribbean ports.
