First cruise ever. Pick Celebrity lines on TA recommendation.
Wife and daughter wanted something fancy. In that regard we made
a good choice. Boat
was clean, clean, clean. Every time you turned around, someone
was fixing or polishing something. Crew uniforms always spotless.
Picked the Bermuda trip to "kill two birds with one
stone" so to speak. Was a chore to check in - nothing like 4
boats leaving NYC on the same day.
Everyone's room appeared to be changed so that there was lots of
confusion about lost luggage. We were changed to deck 10, but our
bags were
labeled deck 6. Went down and retrieved them myself. Room well
laid out - lots of storage, etc. Good AC, interactive TV worked
fine.
You get dressed up for dinner. Servers all wear white gloves,
etc. Food quite good overall, even though some "chef
specials" were remarkably ordinary.
Portions small too - they probably realize everyone is going to
make pigs of themselves at the midnight buffets. You can also
have a "formal" breakfast
and lunch too if you want. By the end of the cruise, most people
were opting for this as opposed to the cafeteria.
Shows quite well done. Lots of rude people taking through all of
them. Spoke with the cruise director - a fantastic man named
Simon Wier - who told me
that the performers considered the crowd on board this trip to be
the worst they'd seen all summer. Loved Simon. More entertaining
than the
performers. What can you say about a guy with more energy than
Robin Williams, who can do a fantastic version of "the
dollar song" and then jump into
the pool in a 3 piece suit to play V-ball? Unfortunately for
future Horizon goers, Simon told me he is feeling
"stale" and plans to go on holiday soon as his
contract is up 8/1.
Didn't sign up for shore trips. Considered them a
"rip". Those who did sign up confirmed my suspicions.
Horizon docks at the West End at the Royal Dockyard.
Nowheresville! I know it was remote, but it was worse than I
thought. I'd go to Bermuda on Horizon
again, ONLY if it went to Hamilton and St. George. Otherwise I'd
take the Zenith. Zenith "parks" right down town for 3
days.
Other than that, the trip was a success. I've never seen so many
people work so had to try to give you a good time.
