We went on the Mercury Apr 26 – May 3, western Carribean sailing This was our second cruise; the first was four days on Carnival’s Ecstacy to the Bahamas.
During the cruise we celebrated our 25th anniversary. This cruise was everything we wanted and more. The ship itself was in pristine condition and was kept
spotless the entire week. We were in cabin 9145, an outside with verandah. The cabin space was adequate, lots of storage, and the king size bed was very
comfortable. The cabin included a desk and chair, small sofa and coffee table. Also included was a TV with CNN, ESPN and movie channels. We enjoyed
Celebrity’s intreractive TV and previewed several shore excursions and watched some of the staff interviews. If you want to know what time it is, bring your own
clock and extension cord. Our room steward was Madelina, and she kept the room clean and picked up; somehow she knew when we were out of the room.
There were no towel animals or other surprises but that was okay with us; just as long as we had lots of towels and ice, which she kept supplied. The food in the
dining room was excellent, especially the soups (the cold fruit soups were new for me and they were awesome!). There was a good variety and we found
something to please us each night. Also, contrary to what some have said about other ships, we thought the salads were good, and seemed to be fresh. Our
waiter, Genghis and busboy (I’ve forgotten his name), did a very good job. Genghis told a different joke each evening and the busboy brought our iced tea after
the first night without our asking. We had the buffet breakfast which was the standard breakfast fare (we are not big breakfast eaters) and lunch either in the
buffet or the grill by the pools where hamburgers and hot dogs were served each day. My husband had pizza by the pool every afternoon as we had late
seating dinner. I usually went for frozen yogurt or some tea sandwiches and cookies served in the buffet area and by dinner time, we managed to be hungry
again. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. The band Onyx is just as great as I’ve read before, the a cappella group Grand Slam was terrific, and the
shows we attended were great. The theater is well designed and you can see well from every seat. In Key West, we just walked around, found the Hemmingway
House and toured that, stopped in a few shops. One must is the Key West Key Lime Shop. Try the frozen key lime pie on a stick. It is out of this world! At Calica,
we did the Xcaret tour. It is an ecological park with an underground river, ruins, lots of birds (flamingos), a turtle farm and it you’re lucky and reserve a spot,
swimming with dolphins. This is a neat place to visit. In Cozumel, we strolled around, spent some time at Carlos and Charlie’s – what a fun place! Of course, we
did the snorkeling with the stingrays. That’s an out of this world experience. The stingrays are so calm and graceful and their wings feel like velvet. The water
and sand at Stingray City are just incredible. A note for anniversary couples: we purchased the anniversary package for $119 and in our opinion it is well worth
the money. We received a floral arrangement, a bottle of wine, two plush Celebrity robes, breakfast in bed, two engraved champagne flutes, and a signed card
from the Captain. Nice to have these remembrances. Also they had an anniversary/honeymoon party on Thursday, with free drinks and music. That was a lot of
fun; one couple had been married 61 years! We had a wonderful time on this cruise and can’t wait to do it again. Next time we are thinking about an Alaskan
cruise and we’ll be searching the reviews again as we make our decision. Thanks to all those who post these reviews. They helped a lot when I was planning this
trip.
