Let me start with the positive aspects. The ports of call were good. The tender service was very good as well. The cabin, we had a stateroom which is just a
bed, tv,bathroom and room with a view. I suggest a room with a view if you can get one. Our head waiter for dinner was delightful. He accomodated our
requests of which we had many. This is a good place to start giving you the negatives. The food was not only NOT FRESH but it was very unimaginetive!! I
SEEMS that leftover food was used at the next meal (i.e., bread, fruit). We never, and I mean never had a fresh piece of bread on this so-called Italian
ship. Im 100% Italian so I know bread believe me. Prior to our sailing I called COSTA directly to make sure that they knew to accomodate my dietary
requests. My requests were simple. Low-fat food, lots of steamed stuff and fruit. Needless to say the crew was totally unaware of my requests. Not only
were they not aware of my requests but they made it extremely difficult to get by with the food offered. For example: milk. Not only was there not skim milk
available on board, there wasnt even low-fat milk available. I couldnt eat my daily breakfast of cereal and milk. I tried though and so did the other
AMERICAN passengers. They totally did without any dairy products for the full week on the ship because whole milk made them and me feel pretty ill. The
coffee was TERRIBLE and I mean TERRIBLE. This ship has never heard of a good cup of 'Starbucks type' coffee. It was more like instant from crystals. I did
without decent coffee for a week. THis was hard because I love coffee. The 'gym' is a joke. If the equipment wasnt broken it was so outdated that it was
physiologically dangerous to use. Of the 'working' equipment, there were children playing on them. Free weights were pitiful. The highest amount weight
was a 15lb dumbell. I gave up after the first try in this gym that got so many rave reviews in the gorgeous color brochure. I work out everyday and was
extremely upset at what was available to me. My main criteria in choosing a ship for my honeymoon was first the itinerary but very close behidn was the
gym on board and the low-fat fresh food availble to me. The entertainment was sophmoric at best. The same person who served my food was in the
chorus line. As for the staff and their poor poor attitude. I finally got so tired of the lack of attention that I asked them why they had such poor attitudes.
They said they dont like working for COSTA and the only reason they were on the ship was because it was the last choice on their contracts. 98% of this
ship was Italian passengers. But I was able to track down all the americans after the cruise. I asked them their feelings on the cruise. Let me just say they
werent as kind as I was. I would never cruise with COSTA again, unless it's in the Caribbean. I understand service etc is completely different because they
cater to the American crowd.
