Since this was my 9th cruise, I knew what I could expect, but this excellent cruise exceeded all my
expectations by far. First of all the up-to-now flagship of Costa line impresses by its great architecture
which is a very pleasant contrast to state-of-the-art ships. The embarkation procedure worked well,
allthough I've seen a better performance of the Costa crew last year in Genova. The staff is very
friendly, most of them speak four languages or more. This stresses the multi-national aspects of
European culture and fits well to Costa's slogan "Cruising Italian Style". Also the announcements (about
two per day) are made in multiple languages, which is very pleasant compared to American ships where
nobody seems to care about non-US passengers. The food is excellent and offers a wide variety of
tastes. Everybody who likes Italian food will be delighted by lots of Italian specialities. Compared to an
earlier cruise aboard a Costa ship, some natural food has been replaced by "fat free" or "Vitamin D"
products. Nobody would care about that in Europe, but this seems to be a response to the demand of
American passengers. Entertainment also is great and offers a wider range than American ships do,
where most often only American kind of humor is presented. The destinations were impressive, but
shore excursions offered by Costa are too expensive. Overall, this cruise has been a great experience. I
can recommend cruises aboard the Costa Victoria to everybody. Only for people who dislike Italians or
Italian style, this ship might be the wrong choice.
