As a first-time cruiser, the choice of ships can seem
overwhelming. Which is right for you? That's where our experience on many ships comes in.
We can work together with you to find a ship, itinerary, and price that's right for you!
If you have never cruised before, you may have some
concerns about cruising. Here are some of the questions we've heard from people that have
not cruised yet:
Will I get seasick? No! Almost all modern
ships have huge stabilizers that keep the ship smooth and steady, even in high winds or
rough seas. Also, remember that today's "mega-ships" are more than three
football fields long! This means smooth sailing. The most motion we've ever felt was when
we were caught near a tropical storm in a relatively small ship (The Regent Rainbow). Yes,
there was some motion, but it was only a slight side to side movement. And, the storm
passed in less than two hours, when we were back to smooth seas.
I'm afraid I'll be claustrophobic on the ship.
Our recommendation - go on a "mega-ship"! Not only will you not feel closed in,
the ship's so big you could get lost! Almost everyone we have spoken to with this concern
found that once they got on the ship and started having the time of their life, all fears
of claustrophobia were gone. Two other things may be helpful - choose a short 3 or 4 day
cruise to get your feet wet, or go on a cruise that is "port intensive" -
meaning you stop at a different island almost every day. That way, you can get out on land
and walk around as much as needed.
All there is to do is just eat and lay in the sun.
Ha! This is what my husband, Patrick, thought before our first cruise (on the Carnival
Celebration, a great choice for first-time cruisers) in 1991. His mind changed once we got
on board! Not only are there many activities to suit every taste, there's simply too much
to do! From shopping and great shore excursions when you're in port, to shows, lectures,
fitness programs, cooking demonstrations, bingo, etc., etc., and the list goes on. You'll
find your hardest decisions made on the whole trip will be deciding what to do the next
day, when the daily activities sheet is slipped under your door at night. In fact, to show
you just a sample of all the great activities, we've included an activity sheet from a
recent cruise.
Isn't cruising expensive? Not at all. In
fact, when you compare a cruise with a similar length land-based vacation, a cruise can
actually end up costing less! How? It's simple - with a cruise, all your meals,
activities, hotel room, and entertainment are included in the fare. This is especially
nice, since you don't have to pull out the credit card and pay after each delicious meal
enjoyed on board. We've figured out what similar food, lodgings, and entertainment would
have cost for several of our trips, and the cruise has always been less expensive. You
also get the peace of mind knowing everything is paid for up front, and you're not being
"nickel-and-dimed" to death at every turn, as too often happens on other
vacations.
If you have any other questions, we'll be happy to help.
There's a reason over 97% of first-time cruisers were satisfied with their vacation - it's
the best vacation value in the world!
