My wife and I took this cruise due to the 2 for 1 sale that Crystal offered. The sailing was from San
Francisco Victoria , inside passsage to Hubbard Glacier, Ketchican, Sitka, Skagway, Glacier Nat'l Park
Juneau then to Vancouver. 12 days total. The whole Embarkation Debarcation was handled flawlessly.
Crystal has people to meet you at your gate vs baggage claim as with other cruise lines and there are
people with you the whole time. Leaving the ship we had a 3 Pm flight from Vancouver (no busing to
Seattle) back to Denver, Crystal had a large room reserved at the Hotel which is located at the Airport
upstairs we had a very nice buffet lunch and then whe it was time went downstairs claimed our luggage
and checked in!
The ship itself in my opinion is showing signs of age, even though it had just been in dock for freshening
a couple of weeks before out cruise there was rust around our windows and in many places on the upper
decks!
The food in the dining room was very good! many cruise lines claim 5 star dining Crystal delivers! Our
waiter however was relativly worthless, food several times was not brought as requested and unless we
repeated asked for it he did not want to show us the dessert menu! He seemed to be unaware of which
side to serve and remove dishes from! The assistant Maitre 'D while quite nice and fairly attentive needed
a much stronger deoderant, we had second seating and when he was next to me reching over to give
someone a breadstick the odor was not pleasant.
Our room was kept up very well by our room stewardess and the one morning when we ordered breakfast
in, the rolls were stillwa rm when we got them. Room service dinner was equally impressive althought the
number of dishes and covers was almost overwealming.
Entertainment was in my opnion only fair the qulaity of the singers was very good. However the room itself
is realativly small and they used microphones for all the singers.
The bar staff and waiters were all very good after the first couple of times at the bar near the dining room
the waitress there always came right over to us to see if we wanted the drink of the day or our usual drink.
Another waiter would also come by with a selection of hot and cold snacks, and bring seconds thirds etc..
Alaska is a Cruise not to be missed, it really is in a class by itself. We went kayaking in Ketchican (so so)
Hiking in Skagway (fun) Hiking in Sitka (fun) and Bear Watching in Juneau, definatly the hightlight of the
cruise. We booked our thru Orca Enterprises and was very happy. Bear watching was not cheap $400.00
each but was well worth it. Juneau for us was the best place for T shirts etc..
Don't bother packing too many sweatshirts in you bag just plan on buying some from the ship there are
no sales at the end so you might as well buy when you have a chilly port or in Juneau.
