Airlines - I live in the Naples-Fort Myers area of Southwest Florida area and the idea of
a direct flight from Miami to Rome, Italy sounded great. However, I
don't recommend Alitalia Airlines. The plane was 6 hours late leaving Miami and the
airline seemed to think that was doing good, the Italian cabin crew was
surley, the 747 was old, noisey and very poorly maintained. They still allow smoking and
the air circulation system was so bad you felt like you were in a
smoke filled bar.
The Delta flight back from London was excellent, smoke free, clean, great crew and on
time.
Hotels - The Rome Hilton is very nice but fairly expensive at $500 per day. The view on
top of a hill over looking Rome was great but was located in a
run-down neighborhool and it was very difficult to get to downtown Rome. Those who stayed
at the Sheridan near the Spanish Steps loved it, it cost less
and they were in a much better location for sight seeing. The London Landmark was also
very nice. Great location, about 8 blocks from Marble Arch in
Hyde Park. Also expensive at $500 but about worth it.
Excellent pre-cruise tour from Rome to the Crystal Harmony through the Etruscan necropolis
and neat town and villages. Great lunch by a lake on the way.
Crystal Harmony - In general, a great ship and a great crew. Our Delux Stateroom with
verandah was in excellent shape. Although it felt very small when
two people are trying to get ready for dinner. Only one useable AC outlet under the vanity
that would take a polarized plug. No other useable outlets in
room. Bathroom had several outlets but would not accommodate a polarity plug. Also, the
room was supposed to have an unobsructed view, room 8041,
starboard horizon deck, however there was a cargo divit obscuring the right 20 percent of
our verandah view.
The ship was very well maintained, cabin attendent was extremely efficient and cheerful.
Food and all service was great. Entertainment first class. You'll
love Canne, Nice and Monaco. Clean and friendly people. Malaga and Cadiz, Spain okay but
nothing special. One stop in Spain would have been enough.
Lisbon also interesting. We put together a special trip to the religious shrine of Fatima.
Great tour even for the non-religious. Lots of great country-side.
Waterford, Ireland is great. Would have preferred two days in Irland. The Waterford
Crystal Factory is a great tour but the crystal can be purchased
cheaper here in the United States. Dover, England great port of debarkation. Excellent
tour to London via Canterbury Cathedral and Leeds Castle.
Spent an extra four days in London. Great city and nice people. Play tourist and enjoy all
the history. Don' miss Tower of London and crown jewels. Also,
go out to Windsor Castle. Excellent walking tour with a chaple with most the the important
kings and queens buried there.
Over all, extremely satisfied with the trip. We will definitely sail with Crystal Cruise
Lines again!
