First cruise on the Crystal line, and we had great expectations. However, I had read other
reviews so was somewhat prepared for less than
100% satisfaction. The ship was quite beautiful - likely the best I've been on so far both
as to cleanliness, ambiance and space ratio. We had
a Penthouse Suite with verandah and were disappointed at two things. First, the suite was
below the Lido Cafe and the noise from moving
chairs on the wood floor was very disturbing both late at night (1:30am) and early in the
morning (7 am). Since this disrupted sleep on both
ends, we asked to be moved to a quieter suite should one become available. One did become
available on day 4, so a move was made which
in itself was disruptive. Surely something can be done about this problem - cushioning
either the chairs or the floor surface. The only other
cabin disappointment was the size of the verandah. We had been on the Maasdam in May/June
and it was the largest and best verandah so
far. This one was quite cramped. On the positive side, the food was generally very good
and sometimes excellent, particularly in the
alternative Italian restaurant Prego. The alternative Asian restaurant, Jade Garden, was
very disappointing, the food only barely average.
Our butler was very good, but overlooked a few things from time to time. In short, not the
Four Seasons, but the nicest ship so far. I'm not
sure that the cost was justified though.
