Sailed on Sagafjord few times prior, this first on Vistafjord. This cruise started in
Barcelona with a precruise at
Le Meridian, a fine hotel in middle of the action on the Ramblas. Excellent buffet
breakfast each morning,
good half day tour of Barcelona included. Cruise went to so. France, Florence, Rome,
Sorrento,Sicily, Malta.
Mykonos and Athens.
Check in for boarding was good but have seen better on other Cunard cruises.
Vistafjord is an attractive classic, smooth sailing ship. Our cabin was A grade located on
Promenade deck.
Very spacious about 230 sq ft with plenty of closet space, good size bath with tub/shower.
Had full range of
amenities including robes , VCR, king size bed, sofa ,2 chairs and table in sitting area.
Very well done and very
quiet. Our German cabin stewardess was pleasant, effcient, and kept everything refreshed.
Ship has single sitting dining a big plus. Attractive dining room, plus Lido
inside/outside area available for
breakfast, lunch and the mid nite buffet, There is an alternative by reservation Italian
restaurant called the
Lido with an attractive look out towards stern.
We felt the food was some what short of the very high standards found on the Sagafjord and
the Royal Viking
Sun, but still a few steps above most other cruise ships. Menus would include 3-4 cold
appetizers, 1 hot,2
salads,3 soups,1 meatless selection,4 main courses,4-5 deserts and superb selection of
cheeses, all followed
by a selection of chocolates and cookies. Service was excellent handled by a waiter and an
assistant, plus a
very attentive maitre'd who was always obliging to fill any special request you had. The
Vistafjord no longer
has the Silver Service found on the Royal Viking Sun and the Sagafjord. (Silver Service is
where the meals are
brought out family style on large silver platters and bowls and servings portioned out by
the waiter. along with
all the vegetables and potatoe varities being served thar evening with diners selecting
what they want). Diners
can however ask their eaiter to bring the other selection of veggies and potatoes if they
so desire. The orders
are now presented pre portioned for each diner with what the chef feels appropriate, this
is similar to most
cruise ships.Selection is ample and international in make up.. There were quite a few
Germans on board so
this may have accounted for the wide variety of breads and rolls which were absolutely
superb.Lunch and
brakfast menus were equally expansive.
The Lido had many of the items served in the dining room for breakfast and lunch, plus
more salads,
hamburgers to order etc. Breakfast in the Lido served eggs and omelettes as you wished.
The Tivoli was equally impressive with its seperate kitchen and all Italian menu.
A spa menu is available in the dining room.
While this cruise was 12 days it had only 2 days at sea. Tours of Florence, Rome, Sorrento
area were full day
(9-10 hours) well done but very exhausting. Full day tours always included excellent
lunches at local
restaurants. We found tour prices to be somewhat high with full day tours running $130
per.
Ship has excellent spa facilities with modern exercise room and large inside pool and
saunas. Outdoor pool
also available.
Entertainment was excellent and ran the full gammit from classical to very (and
multi)talented dance group
from the U.S. Well done and appealed to all.
The Vistafjord clientel for the most part are well to do seniors, from U.S and manu
European countries-but
mainly Brits and Germans. Most are well travelled and demanding with many repeaters, as a
result most will
find the ship an excellent chice and a good value. It is not for families with children or
travellers looking for
the Carnival type cruise

This was our 5th cruise on wonderful VISTAFJORD, to become CARONIA later this year (still
Cunard). It is a
great ship, with superb itineraries, excellent food and service - never a significant
complaint from us. There were
some unfortunate port happenings: winds prevented docking in PUNTA ARENAS, Chile; we did
not get close
enough to a major Chilean glacier; we docked in horrible awful KINGSTON, Jamaica (why was
that dismal place
scheduled?); we could not get to our scheduled port in Dominican Republic because the port
agent reported
inaccurate water depth at the pier. Consequently, there were no stops except Jamaica after
we left LIMA and
returned to MIAMI - bad luck and poor planning. About 40% of the passengers on VISTAFJORD
are German or
Austrian; announcements and entertainment is done in two languages and it sometimes seems
that there are two
very separate groups of passengers. However, we did meet and spend time with several
outstanding German
couples. Some of non-professional staff people were inadequate - bridge director, deck
sports director. Some of
the lecturers were, to be nice about it, incompetent. One spent considerable time
discussion the Aztecs of Mexico
when we were about to visit the Incas of Peru. We would gladly sail again on VISTAFJORD.
