The American Queen is a floating museum with lots of antique furnishings reminiscent of the 1800's. Our cabin, one of the four suites, was also furnished with authentic antiques. They were charming, but the beds were not very comfortable. We found the dining room service to be quite satisfactory, but not up to the standards of the larger ships. Food variety and quality was good, but not superior. The on-board entertainment was excellent. The four singers and dancers put on great shows, better than many we have seen on the new, large ships. The itinerary was excellent. We really enjoyed the tours of American cities such as Madison, Louisville and Paducah. Our pre-cruise stay in Cincinnati and post-cruise stay in St. Louis gave us ample opportunity to become familiar with those cities. With most of our 29 cruises stopping in foreign ports, we found that there are lots of interesting places to see in this country. Cruises on the Steamboats do tend to be expensive, but they are unique and well worth trying. We will have our third 'Steamboatin' adventure soon, and look forward to it.
