Well, I am going to temper this with the fact that my expectations may have been too high. I have traveled on
Carnival and Royal Carribbean(mostly) and I think maybe Disney should have stuck with the business they
know best...Theme parks.
Our first indication of problems started when we were allowed to board the ship. We were told that the rooms
were not ready yet and that we should go upstairs(along with all our carry on bags) to have the buffet lunch.
Well we get up there and there is a staff memeber telling us that the dining room is closed, and it will be a
while before they are ready. So now dozens and then hundreds of our shipmates are being funneled up to
the pool deck and there is no food. So I figured I would get a coctail... again... all the bars are closed and
they tell me it will be a while. So here we all are... no food or drinks, all our carry ons and nothing to do.
Finaly I snuck downstairs to our room and was confronted by someone telling me I shouldnt be in my room
yet. I told her that I was leaving my carry on and thats it. Then I go to open the balcony door and the handle
comes off in my hand.
Next I want to go change our dinner seating from late to early, book a shore excursion, make an
appointment for my 12yo to get her hair done for formal night and get my 4yo son checked into the kids
program. Guess what? You can't do any of that till 2:00. So now I have to prioritise whats most important
because you can't do all that at the same time. So at 2 I go change our dinner time, and then get the kids
signed up. Now it's 3:00 and I havent even had my first beer yet! Then My wife and I go down to the Salon to
make an appointment for my 12you girl to get her hair done for formal night. I am informed that you must be
18 or older to even be in this part of the ship and she may not get her hair done. Nice, huh. A supposedly
kid oriented ship and she can't get her hair put up. She was very disapointed. While I'm on the subject of
"Formal Night" since this ship has 3 restaurants, your formal night is determined by which restaurant you are
in that night. So only one third of the ship is dressed up on any given night. Its very strange to see people in
jeans and others in Jacket and tie. Also, what some people think of as formal is incredible.... No tie, Dockers,
House dresses... I felt over dressed. Thank goodness I didn't rent a tux like I usually do.
The reports from both my children were that the kid program felt like daycare and after the first night,
neither one returned. So much for a night out for me and my wife. But really there wasn't that much for
adults to do after 8:00. I like to gamble, and do see a show. Well there is no casino, and the show is Disney.
The last show was great, but It might be nice to have an adult show later. There was an adult comedy club,
but it wasn't that great, and 1 night of that was enough.
I was not impressed at all with the staff. Our room stewardess was less than stellar. For me, the benchmark
is that when you return from dinner, your room is made up and readied for you to retire. Lights set, bed
turned down, etc. This was not the case on 2 of the 4 nights. That really bothers me. They know you will be
gone for 2 hours eating, so there is no excuse for this not to be done.
So bottom line, it wasn't terrible, just not what I expected. If it's your first cruise, I'm sure you will love it.
Would I go on it again or reccomend it to seasoned cruisers, absolutley not.
I think Disney should make movies and run theme parks and leave the cruise industry to Royal Carribbean.
They have cruising down to a science just like Disney has its parks.

Living in ground zero of Micky World I was a bit apprehensive about booking a cruise on a floating
extenstion of WDW but that boat is so darned pretty to look at. In a few words... the cruise exceeded my
expectations. Everything that mattered on the cruise was first class, from Amber, the young lady on the
other end of the 1-800 number who booked it, to the speed and efficiency they got us off the boat and on
our way home. Yeah... there were kids on board but there were ample opportunities to get away from the
kiddies on and off the ship. (Lounges, night spots, an adult only pool, and an adult beach on Castaway Cay)
The entire crew was superb and went out of their way to make the four day trip nothing short than perfect...
kudos to the keeper of our cabin, the dining staff, the young man from Scotland in Sessions who kept the
Long Island Ice Tea flowing, and Liza in Palos... The cabin had a veranda which was well worth the extra
bucks... a great place to sit and sun and get away from it all. Downsides? A few. The snorkling on Castaway
was the pits (come on Disney, there's got to be a reef on that cay somewhere!) and the excursions seemed
a bit pricy for what you got. $30 bucks a pop to ride the water taxi from the boat to Paradise Island... Could
have done it for about 3 or 4 bucks if we had ventured out on our own and had an extra $50 to flush down
the toilet on the roulette wheel. Palos was everything they say is... definately grab at least one meal there.
The chocolate souffle was incredible. Sorry this is kind of windy. Bottom line is I think the cruise is an
excellent value. Would I do it again? As I write this, my wife just handed me our confirmation letter for our
seven day cruise on the Magic this fall!

My 25-year old daughter chose the Disney Cruise vacation (3-day land/4-day cruise aboard Disney Magic)
as her college graduation gift….we were both very glad she did!
Upon the advice of our travel agent, we were booked on the red-eye flight from Denver to Orlando. Our
early-morning arrival meant that we wouldn’t be spending the first day of our vacation traveling. When we
stepped off the plane in Orlando (about 7:30 AM), we were met by a Disney Cruise Line representative and
escorted to the DCL bus. We did not have to claim our luggage; that was all taken care of for us.
Disney advertises ‘one-stop check-in’ and it certainly is just that! Upon our arrival at the Port Orleans
Resort, we gave the desk clerk our passports and credit card. In turn, we were handed our ‘Key to the
World’ card….hotel room key, ship stateroom key, WDW park admission ticket and charge card for the
hotel, WDW and ship. That was our only check-in for the entire vacation! Even at this early morning hour,
our hotel room was ready and our luggage was delivered within 20 minutes!
Knowing we would be tired from our overnight flight, we had planned in advance to spend a couple of hours
relaxing at one of the water parks. After that pause that refreshed, we were ready to hit the theme parks!
This was our third trip to WDW, and knowing that three days would not be enough to do everything, we were
able to pick and choose just those attractions we were most interested in. NOTE: The FastPass admission
to some of the more popular rides is a great way to NOT wait in long lines. Just pick up a ride ticket, which
gives you a specific hour to return, then practically walk right onto the ride…right past all those folks who
are waiting in line 60 to 90 minutes! Even with pacing ourselves a bit, we were still exhausted each
evening….there is just so much fun to be had!!!!
Monday, May 22, could have been a sleep-in morning….but we were much too excited…..we were heading
for our cruise! Our luggage was picked up from the room about 8AM, so we had breakfast and read by the
pool until we boarded the bus at 11:30 AM. After about a 75 minute ride, we crested a hill and there it
was….the fabulous Disney Magic!! We tried to be cool and not run through the terminal, but we were very
excited to board this beautiful ship. There are NO lines to board…just slide that Key to the World card
through the scanner, and you are ready to go. We were asked to wait in the ship’s lobby only about 10
minutes before heading to our cabin. (The crew does a fantastic job in getting the ship ready for the next
bunch of lucky passengers…they only have a few hours.)
Our cabin (#7541) was very nice with a king bed, sofa sleeper, and plenty of storage space. Bathroom was
small with a very loud marine toilet…..that is very standard on most cruises. We were on deck 7 and felt it
was centrally located to the clubs and restaurants on deck 3 or the outside activities on decks 9 and 10.
The elevators are small and well used, so most of the time it was easier to just burn some calories and take
the stairs.
There are probably more than 2000 folks on board (not including crew) and many of those are children.
However, it is a huge ship with plenty of room for all. We never did feel overwhelmed with crowds or children.
The lunch buffet line after we boarded was no-wait and we were able to find a table outside…this was our
very favorite place for breakfast and lunch! We spent some time exploring the ship, then about 5 PM, we
found a spot by the upper-deck rail and to watch the departure and listen while the ship’s horn played
‘When You Wish Upon a Star’….kind of set the tone for the entire trip!
We thoroughly enjoyed the rotational dining experience…each of the three restaurants is very unique and
serves a different style of food….Lumiere’s is French, Animator’s Palate is Italian and Parrot Cay is
Caribbean. We had two nights in Parrot Cay; the menu the second night featured selections from chefs
throughout WDW and the cruise line. Children’s menus were always available and plain steak , chicken
breast or fish could always be requested. We both felt that the food (quantity, quality and selection) was
very good. Needless to say, we never went hungry!
We chose early seating (6PM) for dinner, followed by the evening show, then still had plenty of time to hit
some of the adults-only clubs. Our favorite late-night spot was Off-Beat, the improv comedy club. Drinks
on-board are charged to your Key to the World card…please be aware that an automatic 15% gratuity is
added to every bar bill; you may certainly add another tip, but it is NOT necessary. Also, when you charge a
drink, check to make sure you get YOUR card back. Sometimes the waiters take several drink orders at a
time; my card was given to another guest and never did turn up. It was handled graciously at Guest
Services, but checking the name on the card would have eliminated a but of hassle.
I started each day with an early morning walk on deck 10, followed by a cup of coffee and pastry that totally
defeated the purpose of the walk. On day two, I was up early enough to see us do a complete 180-degree
turn and back into the harbor/dock area at Nassau! The captain handles this ship like it is a Volkswagen!
Nassau was a place we would cross off our list, but we were prepared for that from all the comments I had
previously read on this review site. We walked off the boat and were immediately hit with folks selling this
and that…they would love your money but also don’t press if you say no. Jennifer had thought she would
like to get her hair braided and there is a braiding pavilion where they promise ‘clean hands and sterilized
combs’…..I don’t think so! Even so, she paid $2 per braid (included beads) and came away looking cute and
she didn’t get head lice. We walked down to the Straw Market and bought only a few post cards. Nassau just
wasn’t our cup of tea so we took a water taxi across the harbor to Paradise Island and the Atlantis Hotel. Not
much to see as they only let hotel guests in the pool and grounds areas. I thought I had read that the
aquarium and dig sites were free, but they cost $25 if you are not a hotel guest. So, we just left a few
quarters in the casino slot machines, had a $3 coke and went back to the ship. Next time, I will consider the
beach day shore excursion.
Evening entertainment was, of course, very Disney, but that was one of the reasons Jennifer chose this
vacation. The first evening’s show, ‘Voyage of the Ghost’ ship was rather dark and slow-moving, but the
other two shows made up for it. We were also privileged to attend the international premier of Disney’s new
movie, ‘Dinosaur’, as one of our night’s entertainment spectaculars. An evening deck party (a wood dance
floor is pulled out over the Goofy swimming pool) while in Nassau was great fun! There were a few people
on the deck of the Carnival ship next to us….they were wishing they were having fun with us!!! We always
felt there were plenty of activities for adults, many areas where children are not allowed….however, it was
great to see that many kids having so much fun!
Castaway Cay is everything that is promised AND MORE! It was stormy with thunder and lightening when we
docked so we couldn’t get off the ship until the weather cleared (about 9:30 AM). Once it cleared up, it was
the most incredible day of all! We had pre-rented floats on the ship so we picked those up when we got to
the beach. We had also brought snorkel masks and tubes from home, saving ourselves $25 per person to
rent those. (A swim vest is required if you snorkel, but those were available at no charge).
We opted to stay at the family beach (instead of the adult area) because that’s where the snorkel trail, the
food, the music and all the fun are! There are plenty of lounges but not as many umbrellas; get to the beach
early to get an umbrella, if that is important. We floated, we sunned, we ate, we snorkeled….we had the best
time ever! About 3:30, the ship’s horn sounded and we, very reluctantly headed back to the ship. (Being a
castaway on Castaway Cay might not be a bad idea!)
The crew on the Disney Magic was exceptional! Our wait staff (Emil from Macedonia) and Jorge (from Chile)
were fun and very attentive at dinner each evening. Our cabin steward, Sharon, did a fabulous job and we
especially enjoyed the towel and blanket animals she had on the bed each evening. The attendants in the
buffet area were very helpful, especially when it came to insisting that I try one of each of the wonderful
desserts!
Too soon it was time to prepare for disembarkation. Once again, we had to do nothing with our luggage
except set it outside our room. We simply walked off the ship, handed in a customs form, and picked up our
luggage. We then proceeded outside of the cruise terminal and checked our luggage at the Delta Airlines
counter before boarding the DCL bus to the airport. It could not have been easier.
This was truly a dream vacation; Jennifer and I are already looking forward to ‘next time’! When you wish
upon a star.....your dreams come true!

We were a group of 15, 10 adults and five children. We did the three day Disney World, four day
cruise aboard the Disney Magic. I love this web page and have found it very useful in planning
cruises. My wife and I have done 11 cruises before this one (RCL, Norwegian and Celebrity), so I
think I will try to compare the Disney experience to other cruises we have taken.
Positives: 1. Beautiful ship. Nicely laid out and very clean. Sufficient lounge chairs on deck, however,
like all cruises, if you want a chair around the pool, get there early. 2. The pools were open until
midnight. This was very nice especially with the kids. 3. Embarkation was a dream. If you do the
vacation as we did they check you in at Disney World and when you get to the ship you just walk on.
4. Private Island was beautiful. Also since you dock right at the pier on the island your sure to make
it. On so many other cruises it seems the Capt. Looks for reasons not to stop and you end up in
Nassau instead, 5. Welcome aboard lunch was great. Go to deck nine as soon as you board and
they have huge shrimp. Very tasty!!! 6. Cabins were bigger than most ships we were on. We had a
category 7 with four people (two kids) and it was fine. Disney got smart and the have two separate
bathrooms, one with the shower, the other with the toilet. Both had sinks and it was a god sent with
four in the cabin. 7. DEFINITLY eat at Paolo's, the adults only restaurant. Get reservations as soon
as you board. It was outstanding and the only way you'll get a four star meal (see below).
Negatives: 1. Entertainment for adults was real bad. Big gaps in the evening. The comedy club was
good, but other than that not a lot to do. 2. The dining experience was horrible. Not what you get use
to on cruises. Instead of the typical five course, elegant meal, you get three courses with little variety.
Portions were REAL small and taste and presentation was adequate at best. Waiters did not refill
water glasses or remember who was drinking iced tea. You'd almost do better at the café on the 9th
deck. 3. Not much shopping for the wife. Basically two shops with mostly Disney stuff.
That's it for the negatives, but think about it. Why do you go on a cruise? For me, besides relaxation,
its for entertainment and elegant dining. I enjoy having a wait staff that caters to me, that remembers
what I drink, and that at least tries to seem interested in my party. On Disney, it seemed rushed and
chaotic. Also I enjoy the entertainment. I missed the stupid things like family pool Olympics, the no so
newlywed game, the art auctions, and the stand up comics. I also missed the casino. With all the
hawking of alcohol, the idea that Disney wants to instill family values goes out the window.
Conclusion:
If you like cruises, you'll probably feel the way I do. It was nice, but missed the mark. We've brought
the kids on other lines and they have had as much fun with them as Disney. We had MUCH more fun
on the other lines. My choice is still Celebrity, the RCL, then Norwegian.
Happy sailings………….

For almost a year, my partner and I prepared and looked forward to this trip. My partner had never
been on a cruise before and it had been almost 15 years since I sailed on the Carnival Cruise line. I
felt pretty prepared after visiting this site on numerous occasions. We did the 3/4 day vacation where
we spent 3 days at the parks before cruising. After 3 very full days of theme parks, we were ready to
rest and relax.
Getting onboard was super easy. Our hotel room key was also our stateroom key and we already
knew where that was, so we were in our room within 15 fifteen minutes of getting off the bus. We took
the tour of the spa first and made our appointments. If you go on the tour, you can get discounts on
certain spa services, so I highly recommend it. Just follow the wonderful smell because the spa truly
is an aromatic treasure. We then went to Topsiders for the buffet and I was sorely disappointed that
they had no shrimp, especially after reading about them in every review! I found out later that they
had a food poisoning scare the previous cruise and as a precaution they pulled the shrimp. I thought
the buffet at Topsiders was pretty sorry. The one at Parrot Cay is much better. I never made it to
Lumiere's for any daytime meals, but heard it was fabulous. The food in the dining rooms was good
and very pretty. Follow all previous suggestions on what to order. Surprisingly, Parrot Cay was the
best! I loved the dessert at Animator's Palate. And Palo's was wonderful-the chocolate souffle is to
die for.
While we're on the topic of dining, unfortunately we were seated in the corner near the kitchen and
served last on the first two nights. Our servers were nice but very slow. I finally said something to the
head waiter, Sam, and he assured us he would correct it and sure enough, the service was much
faster the third night. If you find yourself getting served the entree while others are finishing their
dessert, your section is probably at the end of the line. Speak up immediatly and it should be better
the following nights.
The spa was wonderful. I did have an unfortunate experience with my spa treatment. In order to get
the discount on the seaweed wrap, you have to get it when you're in port. The spa staff had to fit me
in a previously marked off slot. Big mistake. It seems that while the ship is in port at Nassau, they run
a drill for the crew only. The speaker was right over my head and for 20 minutes I heard
announcements and drill horns. I was VERY upset. The staff was wonderful and scheduled me for
another complimentary seaweed wrap the next day. (The seaweed wrap is $140, so this was very
generous of them.) Plus I got to use the rainforest for free. What a relaxing room!!!
I would be remiss, if I didn't mention our cabin steward's performance. He was fabulous and I'm sorry I
can't remember his name. Everynight we got a towel animal and we actually looked forward coming to
our room.
Nassau pretty much sucks. Castaway Cay rocks. Don't go snorkeling unless you're going with
kids-they'll like it, but adults will find it very tame and kind of boring. Spend money on an excursion
and go snorkeling while in Nassau. It's only $5 dollars more to do the excursion. We spent most of
our time on the adults only beach. We like kids, but it was nice to be away from them for awhile.
There was plenty to do on the ship. We went to the piano bar everynight before dinner, for
appetizers and cocktails. We actually had a difficult time fitting in everything we wanted to do. There
are plenty of character appearances and I think we managed to get our picture taken with everyone
of them. The staff will take one with your camera if you ask.
While the cruise had it's problems, overall we had a fantastic time and highly recommend it. I know
we'll be going again!

Why or Why Not Take The Seven Day Cruise?
Take this cruise:
**if you love slipping into a sonorous haze of childhood escapes
**if you would enjoy almost-empty cocktail lounges for most of the trip
**if you like seeing vintage Disney art every time on the way to and from your stateroom
**if you have happy-go-lucky older relatives who love to squeeze rosy little cheeks of the little kids at the
next table, cooing 'oh, aren't you a lil' darling!'
**if you like a 24-hour to-and-fro swaying sensation like that of a sleepy cross-country train
**if you are sick of dry land's vast selection of fast foods
**if you've ever dreamed of engineering toy race cars out of round vegetables and spare dining room
utensils
**if you count on staff members to rectify something after they've made a (rare) mistake (free cheese
platter sent to stateroom after losing track of a few drycleaned articles for two days)
**if you like to have your picture taken at many memorable times with no obligation to buy
**if you like quiet, contemplative sunrises on deck before the buffet opens
**if you enjoy English-language speech patterns from six continents
**if you have kids who want to let loose with the computer keyboard and joystick
**to benefit from a Florida residents' discount
**to see first run films (rated PG-13 as well as G)
**if you want to embark and disembark with relative ease at ports-of-call by simply having your Key to the
World card swiped at the gangway
**if you like the spirit of developing nations, but only a half-day's tincture worth at a time (St. Maarten's
and Charlotte Amalie's west side)
**if you want to smoke real Cuban cigars (St. Maarten)
**if you play quarter slots or other higher stake games of chance (St. Maarten)
**to head out to snorkel at the coral reefs of St. John, Virgin Islands with few cares in the world other than
getting hit by sea spray on the passenger ferry over
**if you know who Harry Houdini is and are intrigued by his air of mystery (C'est Magique!)
**if you like world-champion jugglers
**if you like 'occasional' pin trading
**if you've never shaken hands with a Dutch sea captain
Avoid this cruise:
**if Mickey, Goofy, and Peter Pan make you feel seasick before initially boarding
**if fun, magic, fantasy and puns make you seasick before intially boarding (or maybe you're board with
everything anyway)
**if you plot to take flash photographs in the middle of the nightly show in the main theater
**if you have drug-themed tattoos with large letters and illustrations all over your torso (US Customs was
notified of this unfortunate passenger's presence and was waiting back at Port Canaveral to interrogate
and search!)
**if you have a problem with children sometimes playing hide-and-seek all around you, except of course in
the bars and other adult areas, after about Day 2
**if you have a small child who is really crafty and too-fleet-of-foot for the Oceaneer Club staff to catch
him/her (our dining partners' four-year old was a three-time escapee[once totally unnoticed. His mom and
dad caught him alone in the elevator]. They soon relented and let the boy hang around them all the time)
**if a week is too much time for you and your traveling companions/family to explore two European
colonies, one territory, a desert island, four onboard restaurants, three pools, five bars, twelve Dutch
casinos, three or four colonial-era forts, a couple of abandoned plantations, maybe a hundred
underwater acres of coral reef, and 75-100,000 square miles of blue and green water south of the Tropic
of Cancer, then go aboard a swamp air boat east of Sanford instead and save yourself a few hundred
dollars. No purple and green parrot fish or elk horn coral, but maybe you'll see a gar.

From the retirement village here in florida 700 hundred seniors embarked on a seven day cruise on the
Disney ship Magic. From the time we all embarked to the time we disembarked we were all treated like
royalty. Disney had never had such a large group on their seven day cruise especialy seniors. The
embarkationwas quick and efficient and we had a choice of going topside or into one of the dining
rooms for our lunch buffet. I gues we were spoiled right away as they directed our group to a restaurant
and we filled it up right away, and we have never seen such large shrimp they had aon the buffet.By
1:30 pm we headed for our rooms and most were cleaned and ready for us. There was 600 children on
that ship and during the whole cruise they had their own pool and activity rooms and did not once
interfere with our group, in fact it was a pleasure for us grandparents to watch the kida play in their own
pool. We rotate between three restaurants during the cruise and even in the resyaurants the children
were quiet and polite. As we rotated our servers went with us and ag=fter the first day they were aware
of our needs and they remembered all things we liked and disliked. The variety of the menues were
excellant and if you liked something that was not on the menu just ask the server and most of the time
they got it for you. My room steward was excellant and every night he would make a different animal
from a towel and leave it on our bed. When I first met him I asked that certain kind of fresh fruit be put in
the room every day as well as two buckets of fresh ice at night and he never missed a day after that.
The shows in the main theater at night were great and the coveered a lot of the disney movies, beauty
and the beast, lion king, hercules. the other nights they had a magician and a game called Do you want
to be a mousketeer, it was a spin off of the program Do you want to be a millionare. In the lounges on
deck three they had great entretainment for us adults after 9:45pm. No kids allowed. Overall Disney did
a great job of looking out for the needs of us seniors. One of the great moments of our cruise is when
87 of our couples my wife and I included renewed our marriage vows at sea, it was beautiful. I don't think
this type of curuise is for newlyweds but bring your grand children on this cruis and renew your vows
with you husband and let the kids watch. Finaly at the end of our seven day cruise we had our group fill
in questionares as to how they liked the cruise and we already have 200 couples signing up for another
cruise on the Magic.
