Disney is new to the cruise world, I expected some kinks, and obviously found a few.
Over-all they did an great job. We cruised with our 7 & 4 year
olds.
Because we have been on 5 previous cruises, we did notice a few inconsistencies on the
Magic. You will notice them only if you have cruised
before. The Room Stewart was very inexperienced and although she did keep our room clean,
she didn't go the extra mile to make our stay
memorable. We had to request ice every night. I requested an iron and she pleasantly told
me where to go get one, instead of getting it for me.
The Casino and Mid-night buffets were sorely missed. The pools were smaller than we
expected and they did get packed.
For Kids, the ship was the best by far! I was truly impressed with the Oceaneer Club. The
staff was very knowlegeable and the activities were
superb. Our kids hated when we would sign them out of the club to go to the slide and the
pool!
Castaway Cay was fabulous. We should have spent more time there than in Nassau. There was
so much to do and so little time.
In conclusion, the cruise was very enjoyable. My only wish is that it was a seven day
cruise. Just how much did we really like it? We planning to
cruise on the Disney Wonder in 1999.

We had 11 people in our family and booked our cruise over one year in advance. We dealt
directly with Disney because we thought we would get
better service that way. That was not the case. Both our land and sea arrangements were
fouled up. For example, we had all wanted to have
rooms next to each other both on land and on sea - this did not occur. When we got on
board and checked our dining room arrangements, we
were all at different tables, in different restaurants, at different times. The ship,
however, was magnificent and truly a sight to behold. Getting on
and off was seamless even though our 'security' cards did not work properly. The private
island is, by far, the best in the industry. It was great
docking directly at the island. The adult beach was gorgeous. On-board activities were
non-existant for adults. Activities for kids were generally
decent, although they seemed to be geared toward boys (I have girls.) There were 2 'front
desks' although only one was manned with long lines.
We were treated very well, the staff was extremely nice, but they were, for the most part,
incompetent. This was especially true of the dining room
staff. The 2 main shops on board had a fair amount of merchandise but were out of stock on
a lot of items and/or sizes. The photography was
excellent. The daily navigator - their version of a daily itinerary - was very confusing
to follow and was incomplete. There were no overhead
announcements of any kind. Because of these 2 reasons, we felt in the dark most of the
time. Our cabin steward was very nice and efficient. She
did an excellent job. The food quality and quantity at the buffets was very good. The
dining room food was only fair. There were no midnight
buffets, which was disappointing to find on a cruise. The smaller eating stops offered ice
cream, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. and were quick
and convenient, although the ice cream shoppe could have operated more efficiently. The
decks were beautiful - plenty of space. The pools were
separately nicely and you really did get a sense of 'division' ... that is, the adult pool
really was just for adults, no kids. Disney is a leader in the
entertainment industry, but they have a tremendous amount of learning to do to be
competitive in the cruise industry. Overall, I would not do it
again until they had their act together. I would only recommend this line after another
year, and for families only. I would absolutely not
recommend it to couples, seniors, first-time cruisers, or those who do not have children.
There are too many other, better cruise options in the
marketplace than this one.

Disney Magic is structually a beautiful ship and cabins are well designed for families. We
were a family of 2 adults and 2 children and had more
than adequate living and storage space. Veranda was quite and windshield was a nice touch,
however, did prevent shorter people from having a
clear view of the water.
Major disappointment was the quality of food both from standpoint of quality and
presentation. I felt we were eating a Disney hotel buffet food. The
dining room music was far too loud. I was also extremely disappointed that there was only
a single midnight buffet. The other evenings one had to
find waiters who were wandering around the ship with food trays and light snacks. The one
midnight buffet had a selection of only 3-4 pastry
snacks.
Castaway Key was fantastic. Disney at its best. WOuldn't mind spending a couple of nights
there.
Shipboard productions were well done in a Disney theme. Comfortable seating and good lines
of sight.
Excellent children programs and staffs. Adult theme clubs were well done in the style of
Pleasure Island and amazingly empty.
Only other surprise was the lack of "glitz" associated with newer cruise ships.
The interior decorations - atrium, theater area and common areas
were plain and had no personality of their own.
Shipboard staff were for the most part friendly kids who were doing their best. They were
not seasoned cruise staff.
All in all a relatively fair family value (kids were only $99.00) and Category 6 cabins
($895 per adult). But this is not a true cruise ship experience!
It is a mid-range Disney hotel that happens to float!
For almost the same cost, one can book a similiar cabin for a 7 day cruise on the new
Celebrity Mercury or one of the Carnival ships and be better
entertained; enjoy much better food; and experience a true luxury cruise ship.
