Holland's service has slipped quite a bit with the crew now even complaining about the 'no tipping' policy to passengers. Trying to get a drink on the Lido
was impossible as we had to go to the bar ourselves trying unsuccessfully several times to get a waiter's attention. Also heard complaints, again from the
crew, as to problems which this newest addition to Holland has. Plan on dry-dock for over a month to try and make necessary repairs. Cabins are very
quiet except for ours on veranda deck - could hear running water from apparently flushing toilets about every ten minutes during peak hours. Though
reported, no staff ever even bothered to contact us about the complaint. The veranda rooms are very nice with ample closet space and whirlpool bath.
Always plenty of room in steam and sauna. The crowd does seem to be getting older. We chose to renew our wedding vows aboard. It was a very nice
ceremony, treated with respect by Captain Buckens and crew. The excusions are better than those I've had on other ships, although somewhat costly.
Embarkation for alumni is a joy: easy, fast. However, were literally forced to remain on a bus four hours for a tour of London we did not want because
hotel would not allow our bus to go directly to hotel. Next time, I'll book an independent stay in disembarkation city to avoid this. After getting up at 5:30
a.m. all we wanted to do was eat and sleep, not a tour. Show lounge entertainment was pretty poor, at least compared to other lines. While the food in
the dining room was good, variety was lacking. Food in the private dining room was nothing at all special, and this was evident in the availability of
reservations.
