This is our third cruise and the best one yet. We were looking for an older crowd that was
not as party happy. We also wanted good service,
quietness, and good clean entertainment. We found all this on the Ryndam. I would say the
average age was 60. We are in our 40's but we can
not take that 35 and up party group or the Disco for the 18 - 25 group. The food was
great. We took our 17 year old son and he found the
hamburgers on the Lido deck was what the doctor ordered. He still ate dinner with us in
the Rotterdam dining room nightly and enjoyed the
experience greatly. There were only 35 teenagers on the ship. Most were older couples. My
son went to every Hal meeting and enjoyed all of
them. A lot of the teenagers chose not to become a part of the Hal meeting and they lost
out. They tried to arrange fun things for them to do. He
also came home with many souvenirs. Alaska is truly beautiful and the way to see it is on
the Ryndam. The ship takes its time to show you the
glaciers. There is a naturalist on board to tell you about everything. The entertainment
was clean. No foul mouthed on board. They provided just
enough extras of entertainment to be fun but not something that was done all day. The Sea
Quest game was fun. So was 50's night. They gave
away lots of prizes. In Alaska the tours in the ports of call are expensive but we loved
each one we did. We did the Taku salmon bake and float
plane over the glaciers. It was beautiful and the food and lodge was great. We kayaked in
Sitka. We walked around to the Totem poles and
Creek Street in Ketikan. It was all very nice. The cabin steward kept our room shinning at
all times despite a teenager that refused to hang up his
clothes. Also there were three of us in the cabin. It was crowded but the steward made
sure everything was in order. The dining staff was also
excellent. More than once they tried to get me to try a couple of extra desserts or other
things. Everybody was friendly. When my son didn't eat
dinner one night everyone asked about him. I wished I had taken the whole family,
grandmothers, aunts, uncles, and all. This cruise is done the
way cruises should be done. Boarding is done instantly. They schedule everything such that
there is no waiting lines. I have never boarded a
ship so easily. The weather was beautiful. It was even 80 in Juneau. If there is one thing
that is bad, it is the air flight. We ended up staying in a
hotel before and after the cruise due to air flight. We were scheduled to have to leave at
3 am so we choose to leave the night before and stay
in the hotel in Houston. Also on the way home we did not arrive home until 3 am again.
Also you must make several layovers and even change
airlines. Finally, on the way home, American Airlines had cancelled our flight and moved
us to a time that we were still on the ship. So please call
from your last port of call or even from the ship and check on your flight arrangements.
Most of the Ryndam passengers trying to fly home were
sadly disappointed. This is our third cruise and the best one yet. We were looking for an

was crowded but the stewart made sure everything was in
order. The dining staff was also excellent. More than once they tried to get me to try a
