This was our third cruise in three years on the Statendam and we were pleased to find that
during that time the quality of ship services had not
lessened. On previous cruises we had veranda cabins, but decided on this cruise to try a
cabin on the lower promenade deck. We found that the
cabin facilities, comfort and service was equal to that in the more expensive cabin. We
made more use of the open deck, as a result, and enjoyed
that. When heavy head-on seas severly buffeted the ship during the last two days, the
Captain slowed down to provide less discomfort to the
passengers. This meant that we could not stop at Half Moon Cay but there seemed to be no
significant complaint by anyone. We were promptly
refunded the $36 per passenger for the port fees applicable to Half Moon Cay. The dining
room food variety poses a problem of choice for anyone
with broad tastes. Everything offered was excellent. We believe that the food on this trip
was the best quality of any of our trips. And, the variety of
food in the Lido restaurant cannot be matched anywhere. A most favorite spot is the ice
cream bar with at least six flavors available each day and a
much greater variety from day to day. The evening entertainment was about the same as that
on previous trips with a little less use of the ships cast
and a greater variety of individual entertainers.
