This was our second cruise and we were fully satisfied. The ports
of call (Newport, Boston, Bar Harbor, Halifax, Sydney, and Quebec
City) were varied -
each offering a different type of activity. The shore excursions
were basically of the bus tour type, but there was a walking tour
available at most of the
ports. Tender service in Newport and Bar Harbor was efficient.
(We left later in day, so did not see what it was like at first
call.) The shore excursions
offered a nice variety. My son and I enjoyed the Lexington and
Concord trip while we were in Boston, and Sally's Cove in Halifax
is beautiful. When we
toured Acadia Park in Bar Harbor, we saw the advantage of a
cruise-booked tour over on-your-own. Our tour ran about 30
minutes late, and when we
arrived back at the dock, a tender was waiting for us. They had
held up the ship's departure. I have been told this would not
have happened had we
been by ourselves. Our one negative experience took place in
Quebec. The bus we were put one was similar to a regular city bus
and did not have the
large, high windows of a tour bus. Anytime the guide pointed out
things on the opposite side of the bus from where we were, we saw
nothing.
Embarkation in New York was handled efficiently without any
problems, as was disembarkation in Montreal. There was some
dissatisfaction among some
of the people who booked an after-cruise stay in Montreal. After
departing the ship, we were given a bus tour of the city which
ended at the Queen
Elizabeth Hotel. We arrived there sometime around noon and were
told that the rooms would not be available until 4:00 pm. We
didn't really mind since
we just went out and looked around the city for several hours,
however there were many people (mostly seniors) who complained
about the wait. They
felt they should have been told about the delay ahead of time.
The ship was beautiful and very clean. Our room steward was just
what we like - things
were done when we needed them and when we didn't need to see the
steward, we didn't. Our dining room staff was very friendly and
helpful. Service
was excellent as was the quality and choices of food.
