Cruise was booked as a last minute anniversary present. We drove
the eight hours to the cruise terminal and did not use the
Air/Sea program. Majority
of the passengers were from the New England States with a high
percentage of them being from the Boston area. We found our
fellow passengers
friendly and easy to socialize with. This was our first cruise
with NCL. We were impressed with the ship and NCL staff. Some of
the previous comments on
this site had me concerned regarding what to expect. Embark. went
smoothly. We arrived at the cruise terminal without tickets as we
were booked three
days prior to sailing. The staff had all our documents ready for
us and we were on the ship within an hour. Disembark was
organized but slow!! It took 4
hours for customs to clear the ship. There has to be a better way
to end a cruise holiday than this!! The ship is mid sized and has
a excellent layout. You
always seem to be close to the sea with large windows throughout
the ship, not like some of the newer ships where your only
contact with the sea is from
the pool deck. The ship has a full promenade deck which is great
for walking or sitting and watching the sea go by as you read a
book. The area around
the pool can get crowded if it is a sunny day, however, there are
several other decks to catch some sun. I would expect that during
July and August
space would be at a premium with a high number of couples with
children travelling by ship to Bermuda. Our outside cabin was
small but very functional
with sufficient drawer and closet space plus a good bathroom with
an excellent shower. Each cabin had a window rather than a
porthole which was good
for a Bermuda cruise. If possible go for an outside cabin but be
carefull where it is located. Some of the pricer cabins are
located on the promenade
deck or have restricted views. The cabin steward ranked as one of
the best. The cabin was always kept spotless and the ice bucket
was always full. Meals
were good in the dining room. Our table for 10 was located by the
windows which gave us some interesting views. Great tablemates!!
Once again the
waiter, bus boy and wine steward ranked number one. Meals at the
buffet were okay, but as with any ship you get tired of them by
the end of seven
days. We purchased two snorkelling excersions from the on board
dive team which were excellent. The dive staff were professional
and the water temp.
was okay. The exercise program and instructor were excellent,
however, the gym is somewhat compact. Seeing Bermuda by cruise
ship is an excellent
experience. The ship is your hotel and restaurant while in port.
Bermuda is very expensive when it comes to hotels and meals. We
enjoyed spending our
time in St. George's as there was plenty to do and see. Several
beaches were within walking distance (hills - min 15 minutes) .
During our trip to Bermuda
we experienced rough seas with a number of passengers getting
sick and missing some of the activities. People stated the seas
were 25-28 feet. Our
only problem was that our cabin was located near the bow which
resulted in alot of noise when the ship was battered by the
waves. Overall both my wife
and myself found the whole cruise experience very good and would
have no problems in rebooking with NCL for a futher cruise. One
final note, due to
Bermuda regulations entertainment is limited while the ship is
docked in Bermuda; no casino, gift shops or production shows,
however, everyone seemed
to keep busy.
