I travel with a group of five friends every year. Only one of us had ever been on a cruise
before, so most of us were first
timers. We had some hassles at the airport before getting to the docks (lost luggage), so
the Norwegian Cruise
representatives were the first helpful people we encountered at the beginning of the trip.
Although the check in line was
longer than I thought it would be, it moved quickly and the Norwegian employees were very
friendly and helpful. The cabin
was pretty much what I expected from a cruise ship, not too small but not overly spacious
either. It smelled a little musty
to me. The bathroom was a little on the small side. We were on deck four, and had a nice
window. I cannot say enough
about the crew - everyone from our cabin steward to our waiter and busboy were very
helpful and responsive to any of
our requests. Our waiter even managed to get us a chocolate dessert when there was none on
the menu one night. The
food overall was disappointing. The menu sounded good but many of the items were just not
very good and I found the
menu sort of old fashioned. The cream sauce on a pasta I had one night was inedible and
pasty. I did enjoy the fresh fruit
that was served with the lunch buffet. None of the food I had was memorable as really
good. It would have been nice to
have more fruit and vegetables available instead of pizza all the time (served in the
afternoon and evenings on the top
deck). Another disappointment was the amount of usable deck space - we were never able to
find a spot where the six of
us could sit in lounge chairs together. Maybe that is a function of all cruises but it was
a frustration on the day we spent
at sea. We really enjoyed our day in Cozumel even though we did not take advantage of any
of the shore excursions,
preferring to hit the beach on our own. The day at sea, Tuesday, was a little tedious -
many of the activities scheduled
were indoors and since we had taken the cruise to be in the warm sunshine, did not want to
spend the day inside. I think I
would have preferred another port on that day. We had a great time at night in the disco.
The fitness center was good, as
was the fitness instructor. The captain's champagne reception on Tuesday was fun. Overall,
I don't know if cruising is for
me, but we all had a good time.
