Our holiday started in Vancouver with a flight from Vancouver to
Dallas and then connecting to Miami on American Airlines which
was part of
our air/cruise package. Beware of the lack of leg room and eat
before you board the flight as the food in a basket the airline
serves is very
poor. The return flight on Air Canada was much better with lots
of leg room and better food but the route was from Miami to
Toronto to
Vancouver and much too long. On the return flight we were given
only 1 hour to connect with the Toronto to Vancouver flight and
with
collecting our baggage and going through Customs we made our
connection as the boarding gate was closing. After arriving in
Miami we were
taken to the Wyndam Hotel which was very nice and the next
morning the pre-boarding began which saved a lot of time at the
pier and then
went by bus to the pier. Embarcation went very well and once
aboard we found our cabins satisfactory for the amount of time we
planned to
be there. The food on the ship was very good in respect to
variety and quality. Breakfast could be buffet, sitdown, or from
the Sports bar for
light fare such as sweetrolls, muffins, or cereals. Lunch was
available in the dining rooms or the Sports Bar which had pizza,
hamburgers, and
Hot dogs. Dinners had lots of choices and changed every night.
The menu had enough choices (chicken, fish, seafood, beef, pasta,
etc.) that
there was something that would please everybody. The midnight
buffets were very good as well but if you plan on eating them
book an early
seating for dinner. The kids really liked the Chocoholic buffet.
Service on the ship was very good especially our waiter Devon and
busboy
Alfredo in the Four Seasons dining room. These two gentleman
deserve a medal for the patience they showed with a family of
four sitting at
our table in the dining room. Our cabin was always clean and
would never see our cabin steward there. The bartenders and rest
of the crew
were always very cheerful and helpful throughout our cruise. Our
first stop was in Grand Cayman via tender and took the Stingray
Tour which
we found very disapointing and the highlight of this tour was
seeing the stingrays, the rest of the tour could be skipped as
the turtle farm and
the town of Hell was nothing to right home about. After the tour
we took a cab ride to the Marriott and used the beach in front of
the hotel.
The second stop was in Cancun via tender. Since we had been there
before we decided to skip the tours and find a beach to sun. The
ship
offers a package to one of the hotels but upon taking the tender
to the pier in Cancun we found there is a beach right there with
Fat Tuesdays
bar and resturant. The bar has a nice clean beach and chairs
right on the beach you can use. The pier has parasailing, banana
boat rides,
and shops available. The prices for the activities were
reseasonable and our kids took advantage of the parasailing and
banana boats. Our
third stop was in Cozumel at dock. Rather than taking a ship tour
we used the taxis to go to town and a tour around the island and
found this
to be a good way to see the island without the crowd. The taxis
are regulated by the government and very cheap. The fourth stop
was
supposed to be at the private island but due to the weather was
forced to go to Key West Fla.. This is a very pretty town and a
ride on one of
the tour trams was very informative and would recommend it. The
only problem was the big tender which was used in Cancun. This
tender
held 300 to 400 people and was very slow to load and offload. The
casino was very nice but the slot machines odds must be set very
low as
pay-outs were few and far between. At times the card tables were
full but first come first served. Travelling with three boys aged
11,12,13
we were concerned about activities for them but the ship had an
excellent on board program which kept them busy throughout with
games
and even involved them with the Christmas show. Being our first
cruise we have nothing to compare it to but we enjoyed the
experience and
would do it again. The only negative on the cruise itself had
nothing to do with the ship but with some of the prima donna
travellers we
observered in the dining rooms. These people would constantly
order food, take one bite and order the next dish, going through
almost the
entire menu.
