This was our 4th cruise. The first 3 were on RCCL. I guess we were expecting similar
experiences. Boy, were we wrong! The
week started out very well. The food the first two nights was quite impressive. We were
especially pleased with the size of the
portions. They weren't so small that you wished you had more, nor so large that you felt
stuffed when you finished. However,
the quality of the food went progressively downhill. By the 4th night we were guessing
what they would do to consomme that
night to make it appear different. Most of the food seemed to come out of a can. My
husband, brother-in-law and his wife
decided that the cold fruit soup was made by melting sherbet or ice cream and adding
fruit. The best, or should I say most
unusual, was the melon soup on the last night - a bowl of melted vanilla ice cream with 3
melon balls sitting on the bottom
of the bowl. We laughed a lot about that one. One night for dinner, my brother-in-law
ordered the ham steak with raisin
sauce. It did indead have raisin sauce, but they put the sauce on the mashed potatoes. It
looked like a white volcano, a
brown lake, and 2 raisin rafts floating on top. Another good laugh.
On previous cruises, the waiters made a point of finding
out our names and then always calling us by name whenever we ate in the dining room. Our
waiter made no effort to find
out anything about us. The bus boy was much friendlier and was really a very hard worker.
My husband and I were walking
near the pool one morning and the wooden cover for some of the pool equipment blew off and
almost hit us. Other than that,
you could tell that the ship was ready for an overhaul. It looked well used. There did not
appear to be anywhere to sit quietly
in a public area within the ship. All seating appeared to be on well traveled aisleways.
There was a very small library with
four plain chairs and a small table. However, the door was always open and the cigarette
smoke and conversations outside
traveled in. The shore excursions were good and we felt well worth the cost. Leaving for
the tours and returning from the
tours was handled very efficiently by the cruise staff. All in all, however, we found the
staff to be far less professional than we
had encountered before on cruises. We will probably not choose this line again.
