This is a fun and worthwhile cruise; however, if you have the choice of sailing on any
other boat, I would suggest that you do so. Having sailed previously on
Royal Carribean's Nordic Empress, I found almost everything to be of a lesser qulaity on
the Leeward. By no means, however, is this a terrible cruise.
The two companions I traveled with had a marvelous time. It was their first cruise.
The sports bar is great for those who want to keep track of the scores. It was NBA
playoffs time when I went. The basketball court was also a plus. Not really a
court, but a hoop and backboard. The basketballs could have been better. But what better
way to build up a sweat than playing a pick-up game of b-ball and
then colling off in the pool with a pina colada.
The food on-board was fabulous. Lunch in the sportsbar basically consisted of hamburger,
hotdogs, fries, onion rings. Every now and then there might be tacos
or burritos, but this was the basic menu for all four days. The best lunch is in the Seven
Seas dining room. Good variety. GREAT FOOD.
I had dinner one night in 'Le Bistro.' The service was terrible for such a small
restaurant. The food, though good, was not better than that served in the Seven
Seas dining room.
Dinner in the Seven Seas was fabulous every night. Our waiter Jose was by far the best
waiter I have ever had ion my entire life. My friends and I were on the
young end (21, 22, 23) on this cruise. I think many of the crusie staff saw our age as not
deserving of the same amount of care, attention, and respect as any
other cruise passenger who was older. By no means was the cruise staff rude to us. But it
was obvious that we were often overlooked. During dinner the wine
steward seldom came to our table to ask if we wanted any drinks. The maitre'd never took
the time to converse with us at any of the dinners, though he had
plenty of time to chat with the tables around us.
Jose was different. Anything we needed he got form us. I am used to eating rice with every
meal and Jose made sure that I had rice with every meal. He took the
time to make sure everything was all right. He even took the time to learn all of our
names and to learn a little about each of us. We were treated so well be Jose
that we had no problems with giving him double the suggested gratuity.
The 'Jeep Safari Tour' shore excursion in cozumel, though enjoyable, is not as fun as it
seems. Driving a 4-wheel drive jeep warngler on the beach is exciting.
Seeing the Mayan ruin is anti-climactic. It is very tiny and really not much to look at.
The beach that you go to afterwards is BEAUTIFUL, unfortunately you only
get about an hour at the beach, which is definitely TOO SHORT. The guides on the tour, Roy
and Martin, are great. They are laid back and fun people. They
almost make you forget that you spent $74.00 for this excursion. Overall, an enjoyable
cruise. I, however, probably would not sail again on the Leeward simply
beacuse I know there are better cruises available.
One last person I have to mention is Chang, our cabin steward, ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. We
left clothes lying around. He folded them and put them on our bead.
Our room after we'd destroy it. He cleasn it and it would be spotless, as if we were never
in there.
