Overall, I have to say this cruise was enjoyable.
I was disappointed that we were unable to go to Cancun. That was
the highlight of the trip that I was looking most forward to. I
feel Norwegian should have
let us know more in advance instead of waiting until we got to
our cabins. However, the extra time in Cozumel was nice, as well
as the $50 credit.
Key West was nice, but we had very little time it seemed to look
around. We got to Key West at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning and
most of the shops did not
open up until 10:00 a.m. We had to be back on the ship at 11:30,
so there wasn't much time. I got some really good deals on
t-shirts though for my neices
and nephews. I found a shop where you can get 4 t-shirts for $9.
My friend and I had planned to do a beach excursion in Cancun, so
we would have beach access. However, since that fell through, we
ended up taking a
taxi to San Francisco Beach in Cozumel. I expected to see the
crystal, clear blue water from the pictures and white sandy
beaches. The water wasn't much
clearer than Florida beaches. It felt like I was stepping on
broken seashells when I walked along the shore line. That part of
Cozumel was disappointing.
However, the shopping was fun. If you're in to loud music and
partying, you need to go to Carlos and Charlies. (Pretty
interesting.)
I was proud of myself when one of the store owners in Cozumel
tried to sell me a necklace I was looking at for $40. I told him
I was not that interested in the
necklace. He kept going down a few dollars. I still wasn't
interested. He asked me how much was I willing to pay, and I told
him no more than $5 or $10. He
said, "No way." By the time I left, I had the necklace
for $10.
As far as the ship goes, I was pleased. However, this was my
first cruise and it probably would not haven taken too much to
impress me. The lady I was with
went on a Royal Caribbean cruise last year and said it was nicer,
and preferred it over the Leeward.
We used the air/sea program and I found it very beneficial. I
probably would have been lost if it had not been for the
assistants from Norwegian at the
airport. They took us to the port about 20 minutes away. Unless
your bags are light, I suggest letting the bag handlers (or
whatever they're called) take
them. I struggled with my suitcase just to save a couple of
dollars, and it wasn't worth it.
I was really impressed with our waiter, Ian. He always had a
smile on his face and seemed eager to help us. The food was
pretty good. I really had no
complaints. To me, the food compared to a good to average
restaurant at home.
Our maitre' d always assisted us when we needed it. We had met a
couple at the airport in Atlanta who were going on the same
cruise. We got to know them
pretty well and decided to hang around with them. At dinner on
Monday evening, we were seated at a table for 8 - 12. My friend
and I had late seating. Our
new friends had early seating. We asked the maitre' d if they
could switch to late seating and if we could have a table just
for the 4 of us. He actually
arranged it. We always got to sit with our friends from that day
on.
Our cabin steward always had our room well-supplied with towels,
soap, lotion, etc. It was a treat to have our clothes picked up
after us.
The stabilization was not so great. There were times when you
could really feel the ship moving. I only heard of one person who
got sick. Since I didn't get
sick, the motion didn't bother me too much. Besides, I didn't
want to go on a cruise and feel like I was still at home. It was
actually kind of fun.
You had to get out early in order to get a lounge chair on the
deck. There were times when many people didn't have a chair and
had to wait on someone
else to leave. The pool was tiny, but never full.
As I previously said, I did enjoy the cruise. I would consider
going on Norwegian again. However, I would like to try a larger
ship first to see if I like it any
better.
