I recently returned from a 7 day cruise on the Norwegian Sky. The itinerary was the Eastern Caribbean
and since I had found the reviews very helpful before sailing, I decided that upon return,I would write
my own opinions of the cruise.I was accompanied by my husband, sister and her husband, daughter
and son-in-law,their three young preschool children, and daughter and fiance. It was a family vacation.
As I stated, having read the reviews before sailing helped to prepare me for everything from
embarkation procedures to cabin size to which restaurants to dine in. Since this was our first cruise I
had nothing to compare it to, although my daughter and sister had both been on Carnival cruises
before. First, I'll begin with embarkation, which went extremely smoothly. We had the air/sea package
and were met at the Miami airport by an NCL representative who led us to the baggage claim and from
there to the bus waiting to take us to the ship.
Once at the port there were m more representatives to
guide us through the boarding procedures. This took very little time and we never felt hassled or
confused in any way. Once on board, we were directed to our deck, where our room keys were waiting.
It was easy to find our cabin from there. We then put our carry-on luggage away, after a quick change
into shorts.Don't forget to bring an outfit to change into. The luggage did arrive before dinner but
having a comfortable outfit to wear after traveling did make a difference. The cabins were just as I
expected. It's not a hotel, it's a ship and therefore I knew the room would be small and storage limited.
It definitely was! We stored our suitcases under the bed and made due with the three small drawers
and even used the nightstand shelves for clothes. Of course, we had overpacked, and never wore all
of them. I had taken to heart people's reviews about LeBistro restaurant so I made a reservation to eat
there as soon as we were settled. It definitely was worth it. Excellent food and service! We never had a
chance to try the other restaurants. We ate in the main dining rooms every night and tried the buffets
for breakfast and lunch.
The food there was fine and with young children it just seemed easier.Service
was never a problem and we were served promptly and courteously. It did bother me that we had to
pay for sodas. I do believe NCL should think about including this item with food. Alcoholic beverages I
understand paying extra for but I do think paying every time you have a soda is ridiculous. We enjoyed
all the lounges. The Observation lounge in the front of the ship is great and we spent alot of time
there. The ship is beautiful and spotless. I was always amazed that it never seemed crowded except
around the pool or when we were getting off at a port.We enjoyed Churchill's cigar bar, Checker's
lounge, the pool deck, and of course, the casino. We didn't get to any of the late night activities but my
sister and her husband went to the Chocoholic Buffet and said it was delicious. My younger daughter
and her fiance went to some of the late night DJ entertainment and seemed to have fun. My
grandchildren went to the Kid's Crew and my daughter felt it was perfect for young children. There
seemed to be something for everyone. I will agree with almost every review that I read, the
entertainment is outstanding on NCL. The shows put on by Jane Powell, the 'Hey,Mr. Producer'show
and all of the other shows we went to were Broadway quality. (We live near NYC and see at least three
Broadway shows a year!)
We always sat near the stage and didn't try the upper balcony as I had read
from reviewers that these seats weren't as good. The ports were enjoyable. We wished we had more
time in Nassau and St.Thomas. We could have had less time in Puerto Rico but we are beach people
so we were probably influenced by that. We didn't take any of the shore excursions but had no trouble
finding transportation and felt that it was more reasonable to do it on our own. Don't be afraid to try
this, you'll save money and you won't be locked in to the shore excursion schedule. If you're worried
about trying this, simply buy a guide book for the Caribbean ports of call before your trip and do a little
research like I did. The only exception we made was our last day in Miami, when we took the shore
excursion to the Everglades. We did this because we did not want to be carrying our luggage all over
the city while we were waiting for our flight. This proved to be a perfect way to end the trip since we
had fun and our luggage came with us in the bus until it was time for them to drop us at the airport.
Their own private island, The Great Stirup Cay, was the highlight of the trip, if you are a beach person.
It was a totally relaxing beach day of sun and surf. We loved it but it may not be for everyone. If you
are not a beach lover, that is probably a good day to stay on board and enjoy the ship. I would
recommend NCL to anyone after this cruise. Be realistic before you go, it is not the Princess, but it is a
great value for the money. I would not hesitate taking another cruise with NCL in the future. We had
alot of fun and some memorable experiences ( I didn't mention the rough seas the first three days).
Don't worry the dramamine is readily available.

We purchased the air/sea package with an inside cabin. NCL contacted our travel agent several weeks
ahead of our cruise to offer an outside cabin upgrade. We took it and are so very glad we did. The
cabin was a bit larger and it was very nice to be able to look out our porthole. Next time, we will
definately get a balcony.
First of all, the flight NCL scheduled us on was an American 727. The plane was smaller than we would
have picked ourselves. It was very windy in Chicago they day we flew out and we had a very bumpy
take off and a lot of turbulance. But the flight was on time, and a NCL rep was waiting with a sign for us
immediately when we got off the plane in Miami. We had a smooth process of getting luggage and
boarding NCL's bus that took us to the Port of Miami. We were checked in and on the ship in a matter
of minutes. Very smooth process.
Our cabins were very comfortable for 2. I don't think I would even try to put 3 people in the room
though. We had 2 bunks that we pushed together and it made a very nice sized bed. The cabin
steward then replaced the sheets with a king size and you could never tell that it was 2 seperate beds.
We had a nice sized port hole that we enjoyed. It made the room lighter and more homey. We stacked
the 2 bedside tables on top of each other and used it to store shorts, etc. The desk with the large
mirror was a nice feature. I would finish getting ready there so my husband could get in the bathroom.
There is only one outlet which was kind of a pain. The love seat made a nice spot to put clothes,
cameras, etc. The closet was huge! We had taken extra hangers and hung up all of our clothes. It was
great. Plenty of room on the floor of the closet for shoes, luggage, etc. Also in the closet was a small 4
drawered chest. We used this for socks, underclothes, etc. On top of that was a safe that you
personalized with your own pin number. That was a nice feature. We used that to keep extra cash, or
whatever you didn't want to carry with you. The shower was fabulous. Great water pressure and plenty
of room. Shelves on each side of the mirror was perfect for gel, spray, makeup, etc. There is a blow
dryer, but I would take your own.
We did have the opportunity to see an cabin with a balcony and that was really nice. I think that would
be great. The couple that showed us theirs, said they left the door open at night and listened to the
ocean. They loved it.
We enjoyed everything about this cruise. The weather was perfect. We loved the at sea days. They
were a great time to sleep in, then lay by the pool. We enjoyed the upper deck at the front of the ship.
It was less crowded and had a great view. There's a small wading pool with a waterfall there too that
you can dip into to get cooled off. There was always lots of things going on and we took advantage of
most of them. The makeover at the spa, the ice carvings pool side, snorkling demo, and the 2 for 1
drink specials they have daily. The pool side music got a bit old, but you couldn't really hear it much at
the front of the ship. The nightly shows are not to be missed. Wow were they enjoyable. They keep
them at about an hour, so make sure you see them all. We spent a lot of time after the main show in
the Checkers Lounge. They had karaoke that was a scream and a fantastic band called Private Stock.
Don't miss the Not so Newly Wed Game. We laughed forever! It was great. Make sure you take the
tour of the bridge when they have it, it was very interesting. The exercise facility was very nice and is
open 24 hours. That's good because in the morning it is packed.
We spent the extra $10.00 each to eat at Le Bistro, which we didn't really think was worth it. But we
also did at Horizons, which we loved. We were seated in an elevated half circle booth with pillows for
your back. The food, service, and atmosphere was great. Otherwise the 2 main dining rooms were
fabulous. The food was great, the servers were fabulous and occasionly that do a song and dance
that is fun. We never had to wait to be seated. We love the Free Style Cruising. Whenever we decided
to have dinner, we did. We ate at the buffet for a couple lunches and breakfeasts. If you're in a hurry
they're great. The food was really pretty good--except the scrambled eggs--yuck! But plan ahead and
enjoy the dining rooms as much as you can. The midnight chocoholic buffet did nothing for me.
Everything looked good, but nothing was drop dead wonderful. They only had 2 on our 7 day cruise.
Next time I'll skip them.
The port talk that Kelvin gives is also played on the tv in your room over and over. Do yourself a favor
and skip the real thing and catch it later. He talks forever about everything other that the ports. Like a
commercial for future cruises, the gift shops, etc. I felt like a prisioner held captive. Here we are on a
beautiful 85 degree day at 4 in the afternoon and we're stuck in the lounge for over an hour when it
could have taken 15 minutes. Also, if you're getting off ship at Georgetown and he tells you to buy
water on board first, don't. There's sodas and drinks everywhere. In fact NCL set up a big water and
orange juice station.
We took the SeaWorld Explorer in Grand Caymen and loved it. You go down the the hull of the boat
and look through windows to see tons of fish. We saw a turtle, stingray, coral, ship wreck, etc. They
stop and the diver gets in a feed the fish. It is like scuba diving without getting wet. It was great. In
Jamaica we took the jeep tour. It was an awesome cultural experience. If you really want to get a feel
for the island and it's people, take this tour. At Nassau we loved the straw market. It's a great place for
bags, tshirts, any kind of souvenir you could want--and such friendly people. Then you've got to take a
taxi over to Paradise Island and go through the Atlantis Casino. Don't pay $25.00 for the tour of the
place, just walk around yourself. They have a huge aquarium that is full of neat fish and a couple of
huge stingrays. It's definately worth seeing--wow. The private island was nice, I was expecting
something bigger. We got off on the first tender and got a spot to the right. It was less crowded, but I
think I would have rather been on the left where all the action was. The food they cooked out was
fabulous.
A word of advice for parents planning to take small children--the parents we saw and talked to were
not having a good time. Do both a favor to you and your baby and either leave them with grandma or
wait a few years. Small cabins, hot sun, fancy dining and little kids don't make for a fun vacation.
Debarkation was very organized and went smoothly. I was very impressed with NCL and will definately
cruise with them again. I would have to say that our entire cruise was picture perfect!

This was the first cruise for my husband and me. We did go with some friends who have cruised over
25 times. We enjoyed it tremendously. I had read some reveiws and had some concerns, but most of
them turned out fine. We arrived in Miami a litle after noon and got to the terminal and thru the line
very quickly and were on board and in our cabin within 30 minutes. The cabin was an outside one and
the beds were pushed together to make a queen size bed that was very comfortable. We normally
camp for our vacations so the room reminded us alot of our camping trailer only bigger. We ate in the
four seasons dining room each night and the food was excellent. Only one night was the service very
slow. We had a wonderful wine steward named estella and our cabin stewerd named Errol was very
good at getting us any thing we needed. The first night out to sea was kind of rough so I had to stay in
bed, but after that I hardly noticed the ship moving at all. The ports were ok. I could of done without
san juan, but St. Thoma and the private island were the highlights of the trip. Disembarking was really
easy and we were able to have a nice breakfast before we left. We are planning to cruise in the future
and this was a great experience.

Here is a quick review of our vacation aboard the NCL SKY.
To start we were a party of 7 people that were on their first cruise.
The access to Miami port was very easy to get there and we were welcome as soon as we got of the car by a
nice gentleman who took car of putting tags on our lugged and told us to go inside afterwards.
Inside we were greated once again by nice NCL staff that offered us juice and coffee if I recall in the waiting
line. It took at least a good 20min just to fill in the papers before we could go in line to do our check-in. Once
in the check-in line it took about an other 20min before we reached and agent. The whole process before
boarding took about a good 50min but went smoothly.
While walking on the bridge towards the ship we saw some NCL crew members painting the side of the boat to
get rid of the marks left from other ports of call on the boat. We were already impressed with that.
Once inside the ship we were nicely greeted by other NCL crew that escorted us to the elevator. As soon as
we step out of the elevator we were given our room key and was shown the way to our rooms.
The Rooms :
We had booked to 2 rooms 1 with 3 people and the other with 4. There are no differences between a room
for 3 or 4 it is the same size room so of course the 3-person room was a little more comfortable than ours.
The room was kind of small for 4 people especially that there is not many drawers for the cloth and not very
much storage room. The beds were very comfortable and the shower still amazes me with its powerful jet. Do
not forget to bring a clock if you have a room with no window it is dark in there and you sleep like a baby. The
room steward was very nice and seemed to always know when to clean our room. She always did our room
twice a day.
Dinning Rooms :
All of them very nice they all had their own charm and looked. The one that we preferred was the Bistro.
The Food :
The food was excellent and we had always plenty. As for the best food the Bistro again won it for us. A nice
little French dinning. The only negative point was the midnight buffet I thought that was nothing compare to
what I had heard on other cruises.
Pool Side and on board activities:
The pool and Spas are very nice and doesn’t seem to be crowded ever. We always had nice chairs and clean
towels. The band was not bad but had the same repertoire for the whole 7 days so was kind of boring at the
end. The Staff around the pool was very nice with the free fruit sticks and they even spayed us with water
when it was getting to warm on the deck. The basketball and volleyball court was a nice touch was there ever
day. The floors were of a nice blue and always spotless. The only negative note on this one was the price for
the drinks I thought for poolside drinks they should have been cheaper.
Night Entertainment:
There is no word to describe the shows we have seen on this ship it was simply a treat every evening to go
see those Broadway style production. Our Favorite one was one that was a looked at Cirque Du Soleil. The
casino was also very nice and fun and the Disco I thought the made a nice job in trying to get people to get
down and boogie but the crowd was not easy.
Positive Notes:
The Freestyle dinning it is just great you don’t have to sit with the same crowd. We were 7 and on occasion it
was nice to sit only the 2 of us and only the freestyle let us do that.
The shows the best seen in a long time……I would actually pay to see them.
The food very good
The cleanliness of the ship
The service very nice and polite
Negative notes:
No movie theatre
Small room and not enough storage space
Poolside drinks expensive
Off shore location of equipment for snorkeling was also expensive even on the private NCL beach.
Do not sit on the second floor of the lounge cant see anything because of the railing.
Midnight buffet …don’t stay up for that nothing much to see eat at the pizza place instead.
Things to do or not to be missed
The SHOWS the SHOWS did I say the SHOWS
The chocolate buffet also what a taste for the eyes and the mouth.
The sushi during the day was very nice at the Ciao Chow.
A nice hot tub at night at the very front of the vessels on deck 12.
The disco was very fun to bad for the people who did not show up
In conclusion this was our first cruise and all 7 of us were very happy and as for myself I will cruise again NCL
after I have tried one other company for sure. My next vacation is in November 2001.
Thanks

We just returned from our cruise on the Sky and I wanted to put in my input while it is still fresh in my
memory. We loved this cruise even though we did not have the best of weather. Three days it rained and
was overcast - something I never thought about but we missed the extra sun time.
My disappointments were few - but here they are. The stops San Juan was terribe - you really don't have
time to do much exploring and we did the city tour - and at $25.00 a piece it seems the only thing we really
got to see was the Burger Kings, Taco Bells, etc. What a waste. If you want to do a tour of this city - I
would just get off the ship and there were tons of people offering trips for $10.00 a head. Yucky city from
what we saw - lots of rundown, or half torn down buildings and you would not believe the traffic
congestion.
We did not get off the ship at Nassau - we had just been there a month before and did the Dolphin
Encounter - it was well worth the money if you are an animal lover. It was pouring when we were there this
time and the ship left at 3 so you didn't have all that much time.
St. Thomas - Virgin Islands - we had a very overcast day - we did the Best of St. Thomas tour - it was
better than San Juan, but not that great in my opinion. And the shopping - did I miss something - people
jammed the stores there are a million and one jewelery stores - but I did not see any bargains. I was
turned off by the whole thing - the only bargains are on booze - although we aren't big drinkers San Juan
and the ship had fantastic deals. More than half off the prices here in GA.
The private island was lovely - my husband did the snorkeling - he saw some good things and felt he got
his $25.00 worth, but it didn't compare to what we saw in Kona Hawaii. I thought the island was pretty - the
water a beautiful color of blue - food was ok - hamburgs, hot dogs and barbequed chicken. Of course this
is ample opportunity to buy drinks. We rented a huge raft for the day $15.00 and it was heavenly laying on
it and just lazing in the sun. There is volleyball, ping pong, hammocks plus of course all of your chairs,
umbrellas and picnic tables. They even have sand wheel chairs - and of course they have shirts etc. for
sale there. But bring your own cash or Visa as your ship card doesn't work there. The shirts were a better
bargain there then other places and unfortunately we only had our ship card.
The ship is lovely - we had a small inside cabin, but it was plenty big for the two of us and everything is still
new looking. They have a hairdryer there - you can store your suitcases under the bed so we had plenty
of room. The rooms also have small refrigs which I thought was nice. We brought our own soft drinks as
they are 1.50 a piece on the ship. The cabin was very quiet -
When I was reading these reviews, I was not expecting the food to be much on this ship - boy was I
wrong!!! The food is outstanding as well as the freestyle dining options. The main dining rooms are
beautiful and all meals are 5 course - they have many choices and each meal there is low calorie choices,
vegetarian choices, always a pasta of the day too. My husband is much more of a gourmet diner than I am
and he also agreed the food was fantastic. We never made it to the chocoholic buffet - it was offered only
the first 2 nights so don't miss it if it is your type of thing. They have ice cream available from 4-9 - but
food is readily available almost always. Needless to say the food in the Garden Spot is more causal and
buffet style - they have nice touches like omelettes made to order every day as well as waffles made while
you wait. We had no trouble getting into the optional dining rooms - in these resturants you pay an
additional $10.00 a piece but we felt it was well worth it. You won't believe how beautiful the Italian
resturant and Le Bistro is - we ate 2 times at Chow Chow's since we love sushi (it offers Chinese or
Japanese - this resturant is not as fancy as the others but if you love sushi you will love this resturant.) We
also had the nicest waitresses in this resturant, Evelyn and Hazel. Anything you want at any of the
resturants - you can have as much as you like. Their aim really is to please you. Be forewarned on the
lobster night which was the farewell dinner - eat early - it is there busiest day and that was the only time
we had to wait for a seat. This night it is evidentally dead in the other resturants so it might be a good time
to check one of those out. The lobster was alittle tough but still good. People dressed up much more for
dinner than I expected - you don't have to but you can not wear shorts or jeans for the evening meal.
We went to every show and loved them all. The dancers are great and they did 3 shows, they also had the
Harrington Brothers a great singing trio and a great comic/magician - we looked forward to the shows
every night.
We are not drinkers so didn't spend much time in the bars - do check out the observation lounge though -
quiet, lovely and what a view. If you like to kareokee, Checkers Bar had that every night followed by
something else. It was always packed and people seemed to have a ball there.
They have a very nice work out area and great instructors that offer all types of exercise classes. The 6th
deck has a lovely walking/jogging area 3.5 times around equals a mile.
Well, I could go on and on - if you have any other questions, feel free to email me - . We purchased this
cruise on egghead.com on an auction - what a steal....
