I took this cruise with apprehension, after having read the reviews posted here about the Star. Now, all I can say is,'Too bad'. I'm certain that many things have
gone wrong, but this is a great cruise with a great ship and a great staff. The ship is older, but really doesn't show it (much). The staff is absolutely wonderful.
Every aspect of this cruise was dynamic. I had my heart set on visiting Chichen Itza, however, we missed docking at Calica because of high winds. This is
unfortunately not uncommon, since Calica is a small and treacherous place to park a ship! In retrospect, though,I didn't miss Chichen Itza. We went directly to
Cozumel, which is a few miles off the mainland. For the adventurous, the Chichen Itza excursion could still be done, but not through NCL. We did go to the
Mayan site of Tulum. The site is worthy of your time. Later that day, we went to the Xel-Ha (shell ha) lagoon. It's a nice place to snorkel and swim, but gets
crowded. We continued the next evening to Roatan, Honduras. This island is home to the Tabyana Beach Resort and is something you DO NOT want to miss.
Unless you're a fish, you won't find a better reef (and I live in Florida). The snorkeling and scuba diving is incredible. I cannot say enough good things about this
cruise. Every aspect was excellent. It's obvious that they have not all been this good. However,I'm more convinced now that some people who've taken this
cruise, no matter how good something is, simply cannot be pleased. That's too bad.
