Since this was our first cruise, we have little to compare to. But it was better than we
expected even with the problems encountered. Weather was
bad all the time....not NCL's fault.......El Nino got us! Seas were high and the boat
danced, but I didn't see anyone sick....maybe they were all in their
cabins. The dining experience was wonderful. The food was international, the service
exquisite, and the presentation out of this world .We want to
adopt our waiter. Rooms were adequate......toilet rested a few times but was back up and
runnng soon. The midnight buffets were less than I
expected, nothing more than snacks. But the meals were great. Entertainment was better
than the lounge shows at Vegas. There were a few
problems. We had all heard of the " Cruise from Hell" and were expecting the
worst. There were mechanical problems. Something to do with the
drive which made us slow. We were late getting to Calica, so sailed on to Cozumel where we
were supposed to get the problem repaired. Bad
weather caught us. Had to stay at Cozumel.......16 foot seas. No repair. We missed Roatan,
but that was ok. The seas were 25' there, so we heard.
Other cruiseships trying to leave Cozumel came back, so I am certain there was no
exxageration. We sailed next day to Calica where NCL payed for
our excursions. Sailed home. Last day and the weather got calm and hot.......go figure.
Slow travel but very pleasant. When we got back, NCL gave
us a 50% off next cruise. I think that was adequate and intend to use it when the new ship
comes in to replace the Star this fall. Another
thing....there is a cigar bar in the Top of the Star lounge. While I enjoyed a cigar there
myself, I know that the smell migrated throughout the lounge
to the non-smoke side. That needs to be fixed. I like cigars...not everyone does. In all,
I rate the cruise very high marks. The crew and staff went
above and beyond to make a good trip in spite of difficulties. We will go again.....if
it's the same ship, so be it. If the new one, even better.
