After sailing many times with Princess Cruise Lines, we decided to do some "comparison shopping" and
try out NCL. Boy, were we ever disappointed, so much so, that it made us run, not walk, right back to
Princess. The problems overall were with the staff, starting with our room steward. Upon arrival, he did
greet us and introduce himself, but after that, he was never there when we needed him. Our cabin had
numerous plumbing problems, off and on during the duration of the ctruise. When we would tell our
room steward, he would tell us to contact housekeeping, they in turn would tell us to tell our steward
and so on. On one particular afternoon, we had reported a plumbing problem and had left our cabin for
approximately 4 hours to go on an excurtion, thinking that by the time we got back, we would have
running water and the toilet would once again be working. Before stepping into our cabin, we saw the
room steward and asked him if our plumbing was now working. He said yes, but as it turned out, nothing
had been done. Here we were, tired and just wanting to take showers and relax and we had no running
water and the toilet was unusable. We called housekeeping and they finally sent down a plumber, but
not for another hour!

The service in the dining rooms was just horrible. Our own appointed table waiters were fine, but the
ones that served us at open seating in both dining rooms were very ill mannered and we always felt
rushed. At one sitting, just as the waiter had put down our main course, he immediately asked us to
order dessert before we had even taken a bite out of the main course. At afternoon tea, waiters would
serve platters of pastries to only half of the customers in the dining room and pass others up. I once
had my plate removed from under me when I wasn't even through eating! The Bistro had the best food
available, but there was a $5.00 per person "suggested gratuity", which was very unusual to us
because on Princess, the Bistro charges nothing - it is just an alternate dining room.

After so many horrid experiences, we wrote NCL a letter of complaint. Our first letter went unanswered.
The second letter was basically a cold "yours was an isolated incident and we're sorry for any
inconvenience, but, oh well, sorry, we can't do anything for you". Also, we signed up for Latitudes, the
mailing list that lets you be aware of future NCL cruises and discounts. (We signed up for this early on -
before the problems started). Well, not only have NCL not sent us anything, they have ignored our
questions totally as to why we were all of a sudden dropped from the Latitudes Club. We believe that
this is NCL's way of punishing customers for complaining. We would never, ever recommend anyone
traveling on Norwegian Cruise Lines. They are the most unprofessional group of people we have ever
sailed with and they certainly don't give a hoot about their customers, just as long as they get the
money. Sorry, but Princess can run circles around NCL any time!

My first cruise was a great one, everyone I knew had been on at least one cruise and offered to
share their experience with me befor I went on my first cruise. I went on the cruise with my boyfriend,
and he had been on several cruises, with other cruise lines. Our flight out of Detroit was at 6:30am,
a bit early, but it was a good thing we were early, because when we arrived in Miami, our luggage
did not. Upon arrival a NCL representative was there to meet us, and helped us file a lost luggage
claim. We arrived in Miami around 9:15 am, and the first bus to the ship left at 12:30, a lot of waiting
for anyone. The NCL rep. gave us the choice to wait for our luggage, and get the later bus to the
ship, which we opted to do, I wouldn't have been comfortable not knowing if I would have clothing for
the seven day adventure.

Our luggage finally arrived at 1:45 on the next plane from Detroit, and we
lugged all of it to the bus to board the Norwegian Wind. The process of getting on the boat went
smoothly, no waiting in line, thankfully, I was quite tired of waiting. Upon boarding the ship, it was
lovely, not what I had expected. The whole experience of the day at sea was wonderful, the dinners
were great, and the waitstaff, though a little uptight, were amazing. The itinerary was wonderful,
although when choosing my next cruise, I will research the countries a bit more first. I loved all the
ports of call except Roatan, which leaves a lot to be desired, walking through the third world country
was not the best part of the cruise. My friends had all told me of the first class attitudes of the staff
onboard, but I was not too impressed with some of them, a bit unfriendly. The buffets at night were
not what I had expected, they came up short with not much variety, even the chocoholic buffet was
not so spectacular, especially since my friend can not eat chocolate, the only thing available to him
was vanilla ice cream.

The day we spent in Belize was the best, while at shore, the country is
wonderful, with friendly people. The tour we chose was quite facinating, Altun Ha, the myan ruins.
We were supposed to have stopped at a resturant after the tour, but the driver said we were
ordered back to the dock to load the tender for the ship. Arriving on the ship, we were famished
from all the walking on the tour, but it was after 5 pm, so there was nothing to eat, even the pizzaria
closed at 5pm, so we had to wait until the late seating to have dinner, it would have been nice to
have something available after the tour. On our final night at sea, we opted for room service a little
later in the evening, because we had a late lunch, as we were packing for the trip home, we watched
the ships information channel, which reminded us that room service would stop at midnight, due to
the baggage loading by the same people who deliver room service. Therefore at 10:30 we dicided
to order our sandwiches and soup, and a couple of Cokes.

The person on the other end of the
phone said it would be an hour because they were cleaning the kitchen area for inspection. About a
half hour later a knock at the door brought our cokes, and again we waited for dinner, but after an
hour, still no food. A call back to room service gave us the 'reason' we hadn't received our dinner,
they were cleaning the kitchen area and could not get our food, no apology, or phone call to let us
know what was happening. We were forced to eat off the midnight buffet, which after the first couple
of nights, we decided was not worth staying awake for. Dinner that night consisted of little hot dogs
rolled in pastry and raw vegetables, I don't like the bleu cheese dressing which was offered as dip.
The whole trip in all was pleasant, except for the food outside of the resturants. I will try cruising
again, I might try a different line however, maybe one with younger people in mind, the shows were
good, but mostly geared for the older crowd.

We've just come back from our 7th cruise aboard the Norwegian Wind. Entering the ship was nice
with ginger bread houses made with free cookies and candy, however the lobby is not really all that
nice. It's immaculate but it is low to the ground and small, therefore it was cluttered. CABIN- We went
to our cabin(7034) and opened the door. It was extremely nice and spacious. It was very nice. Not
one problem the whole trip with the room. It had a queen bed with a couch area that pulled out into a
bed. It had a tv, nice size window and closet, with a nice size bathroom for a cruise ship. OVERALL
SHIP- The overall appearance of the ship on the outside is very big and beautiful. The inside is very
big but also very confusing to find your way around. The ceilings were low as well. The deck was
very big. The dining rooms were very nice.

FOOD- Comparing it to RCI or Celebrity is sort of hard.
After being on celebrity, the food was quite disappointing. It wasn't bad, but celebrity outdoes itself
in that area. PORTS OF CALL- Cozumel was beautiful and we went over to Sanfransisco beach to
go jet skiing and relax on the beach for a few hours. They also have great shopping! Roatan was a
nice looking island but very very poor once off the ship. We went over to a nice beach and had a
very fun dolphin encounter. It was quite an experience. Belize city was not what i'd call a resort! We
went kayacking down the belize river and they said we'd see animals and we saw brown water and
acouple of iguanas. That's it! It was something we'll never forget! Key west is always a nice little
town to shop around in for the day. Just shopping and good food. NCL's private island (Great
Stirrup Cay) was nice with a nature trail and a hammock area to sleep or rest. They had snorkeling
as well. The water there was nice but alittle chilly.

ENTERTAINMENT- NCL has fun activities like
bingo and trivia, but they didn't provide the fun game shows at night as royal caribbean does. The
comedian wasn't too funny. All of his jokes were about husband and wife relationships. It got old!
There was one game show like a game of Balderdash which was nice. STAFF- Our waiter was very
sweet as well as the little helper. His name is Rosel and i recommend him. The other staff on the
ship was very young and not too pampering as on celebrity. OVERALL- I recommend this ship and
cruise to a first time cruiser. We had a blast but it's not like being on some other cruise lines.

I have to admit that we were very skeptical and anxious in the months leading up to the cruise. We
bookd the cruise last May for departure in Feb., so we had lots of time to feel anxious.

The embarkation process was fairly smooth, mainly because we boarded at 3:00 and the ship sailed
at 4. Our embarkation lady was a little indifferent: we had requested late seating, she had us a main;
we were supposed to have cabin 6214, she had 6219. She shrugged us off and told us to talk to the
maitre'd about dinner 1/2 hour before the main seating and talk to reception about our cabin. I didn't
think the cabin was a big deal, but I was bummed about dinner.

I must say that all my fears were allayed when we boarded the ship. After the intial chaos of the fire
drill, (which we missed because we boarded so late), we quickly dumped our stuff in the cabin (way
bigger than we thought it would be, with a nice sitting area and a big window) and proceeded to the
top deck to watch the departure and get a drink. We were meeting my sister and her boyfriend on
board and knew we'd find them by the bar! (Note: we booked the cheapest outside cabin on deck 4
and were bumped up to deck 6 a week before our cruise. We were so happy to have a big window
and not two little porthole windows)

To summarize the trip:

The ship: huge, clean, and a wide variety of bars, lounges, etc... I do wish that there were fewer
smoking areas. All of the lounges, casino, bars, were very smoky. I forget how many people still
smoke.

The food: was excellent and abundant. Not much room to go hungry, except if you have late seating
(8:30). Most evenings we would have liked to have had an appetizer before dinner, since the buffets
close at 5 and there is nothing to eat except popcorn and bad nachos in the Sports Bar. But,
considering the weight we put on on the cruise, maybe that was a blessing!

The service: Our waiter Rudy was excellent, our cabin steward Webster was too. Rooms cleaned
twice a day. Ice bucket refilled and mints on the pillow each night. The deck service is continuous
and friendly. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they do and we were impressed with how hard they all
worked. Our waiter said he works 10 months at a time, with no days off, 16 hours a day. Wow!

The shore excursions: Our day in Roatan was rainy and windy, which made for poor snorkeling. But
the day was not a total loss. We took the Sea kayaking trip. Our guide, Alfred and his crew made us
all have fun. Definitely try the Salve Vida beer. Belize was so fun. We did the cave tubing. Amazing.
And to see the howler monkey at the Jaguar Paw resort was very cool. Grand Caymen: yikes! be
careful here. Do not let them rope you into the $3 bus ride to seven mile beach and the $5
admission to the beach, $2 for a chair, and $5.50 for a Budweiser, and a VERY crowded 100 yard
stretch of Seven Mile Beach, like we did. Take a cab on your own to one of the public beaches.
They looked abandoned and more beautiful. Cozumel: what can you say? Not my favorite port.
Although, we didn't leave the main strip and perhaps we should have. Everyone talked up Carlos &
Charlies. I found it vulgar and way too reminiscent of Spring Break. If that waitress blew that whistle
one more time in my ear trying to sell me a 2.50 shot of Sex on the Beach, I was going to scream.

Debarkation: AAAHHH! What a nightmare. After being booted from our room at 8:30, we waited in a
smoky lounge (raining in Miami) until they called our tag color. At which time we were funneled down
the gangway and into a large room to find our luggage. Once located, we schlepped them outside to
a bus. It was nuts and hot, and people were very cranky. I felt sorry for the older people and people
with kids.

Would we do it again: Absolutely! I loved being waited on hand and foot. And Belize and Honduras
are not to be missed.

What would we do differently: Take fewer bags; you schlep them a lot. You don't wear shorts as
much as you'd think. You wear your swim suit during the day and you can't wear shorts after 6. It's
windy, so bring a jacket. Work out more!

We booked this cruise at the end of last summer, after we had a superb experience on the Majesty to
Bermuda. We had phenomenal food, service, entertainment, and a spacious, clean cabin. We were with
our 2 kids ages 13 and 9, who slept happily and comfortably in the bunkbeds attached to the wall. When
we found out about the interesting ports the Wind was visiting during the Winter Vacation week, we
decided to take this cruise, again, with our 2 children. We had been told that the cabin we were getting
was more spacious than the one we had on the Majesty. What we were not told was that there were no
bunk beds, just a Futon for the kids(no way were they going to sleep in the same bed), and were not told
that the caterer was completely different. It turned out that the caterer on the Bermuda cruise was Apollo
which was far superior to whatever was on the Wind, and that was an enormous disappointment. The
cabin was much too small for 4 large sized people, especially because there was no place for the kids to
sleep.

When we saw the situation we complained and the desk staff were extremely accomodating and
understanding. They gave us a separate room for the kids. I would like to take this opportunity to tell the
horror story that we had getting to the ship from Albany NY. First of all we booked our air with NCL
because our travel agent told us that they would be responsible if we did not get there on time. However,
as it turns out, this is not true. We did not find out about the flights until 3 weeks before departure, and
only because I called the travel agent and asked (he never called us. He is a very incompetent agent and
we will never use him again. I will not reveal his name or company) When I found out the flight schedule I
told my agent that there is no way we would get there on time from Albany in the winter. He laughed and
said why worry now? Well I am really glad I was prepared for the worst, because the worst happened. We
called NCL and asked why we had such poor connections and they said because nothing else was
available due to the vacation week. But we booked this 6 months ago! We were supposed to leave
Albany at 6:00 AM, fly to Washington, and then connect to Baltimore, and then to Fort Lauderdale, then
go to Miame .

This was crazy! NCL refused to change anything, even when I told them we would drive to
NYC, Syracuse,Hartford, Boston, anywhere!! Later I found out that there were charters out of all those
cities, that had direct flights leaving on time! NCL said on the phone that if we miss the ship due to
inclement weather THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE!!! The insurance our agent sold us also said
they are not responsible for inclememt weather, and that unless one of us gets sick, we would be fully
penalized.(Access America insurance). Our agent couldn't care less. It seemed we had no way out except
to pray that all went well, which it did not. My worries were justified on Saturday at 4:30 AM when we woke
up (we hardly slept) and found out that due to the blizzard, our flight was cancelled. NCL had told us that
if our flight was cancelled to call them after 9:00 AM. That was a long time to wait. We checked the
internet and found out that there were several flights leaving at 6:00 AM out of the airport on time so we
decided to go to the airport and try our luck. There was about 3 feet of snow and more coming down,
when we drove with our kids and all our luggage to the airport. When we arrived at the terminal there
were about 1000 stranded travelers (5:30 AM) and nobody to answer any questions unless you waited
on line.

My husband stayed in the car with the kids and I started to wait on line. We did not want to get
everything out of the car if there was no hope of getting on a flight. Needless to say everything was
completely booked to Florida for months, so there was not much hope. I waited for about 10 minutes
when an Angel from US Air came down the line asking if anyone was supposed to go on the 6:00 flight to
Charlotte. I went over to her and told her that my flight to Washington was cancelled, and I was supposed
to make a ship at 4:00 from Miami. Can you Help me? She said no, wait on line. Five minutes later she
came back looking for me and said she might be able to get me to Charlotte, which had several
connecting flights to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, all of which we would have to fly stand-by. I told my
husband who emptied the car of two excited kids and 7 bags of luggage, then went to park the car. She
was able to get us on that plane. GREAT!! ONe small catch. This plane was delayed 6 hours, because
the pilot refused to take off unless the aircraft was de-iced on the runway, and Albany had no facility to
do that.

We waited with many other nervous passengers for this plane to leave, while 4 or 5 other planes
left before us. At this point my husband called NCL to see if they could help. They could and would not
offer any assistance, except offer us another cruise. No thanks. They also would not assure us that they
would hold the ship for more than 1 hour. Thanks alot. My husband wanted to go home and go another
time but I insisted we keep trying. I really needed a vacation, especially after this. Just as I was about to
give in and go home our plane started to board. It was 11:45AM, if we arrived at 1:30, when the pilot said
we would, it would mean that all the flights going to Miami that would have gotten us there on time, would
have already left Charlotte. But we didnt find that out until we were in the air. We arrived at1:30 PM and
nobody would help us or direct us where to go. Luckily I heard someone shout "The 1:30 to Miami hasnt
left yet!" We found out what gait it was and ran, ran, ran,. It was boarding when we got there! Luckily I
had our names put on the stand-by list for every flight leaving Charlotte to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, and
our names were the first on the list. WE GOT ON! We were landing at 4:30, so my husband called NCL
from the plane and begged them to hold the ship for us. They said not past 5:00. STRESS!!!! When we
arrived at the airport, the most incredible miracle happened. Our luggage came out on the conveyor belt!
There were about 300 of us needing to get to the ship. We were the last ones on. But we got on the ship,
thank you G-d. Our first experience on the ship was sheer chaos at the excursion desk. My husband
wanted to Scuba dive everyday and did not want to be closed out of the dives, so he waited on line. He
said it was the worst experience he ever had on a cruise ship. In the end all the excursions went well and
the staff was extremely helpful, but the disorganization was apparent on the whole ship. Everything was
chaotic, and the poor staff had to make excuses. I proceded with the kids to the cabin and thought they
had to be kidding. No way were we going to fit. If there were bunks over the bed, maybe, but not with a
tiny futon. But with alot of complaining they did give us a separate room for the kids(they said they had
no larger cabins to upgrade us to, and that was the best they could do). Two cabins turned out to be
great, but we should have been told about the situation beforehand. All in all, the cruise was great
because even a bad cruise is a great time. However, I will not go back on Norwegian unless the changes
made are enormous (after the dust settles with Carnival and Star taking over) . I did not like the layout of
the ship, it had no pizazz or class. It was not especially clean, and the food quaility was quite poor. Most
of the main dishes were inedible for me. The salads, soups and desserts were good, so I was fine. There
were no activiities for the kids when the ship was in port which was 4 out of 6 days, so that was difficult
since my children prefer to stay on the ship. The activities they did have on at sea days were wonderful
and they had a ball. There were hundreds of kids on the ship, and they all seemed to have fun. There
was little or no air conditioning on the ship, and it seemed not enough power to get us to the ports on
time. As a result we were very late to Grand Cayman and Roatan, and missed much of the day. This was
very disappointing. The entertainment was spectacular. Johnny Thunder, from the Drifters, put on 2 great
shows, and the Magician was wonderful. The singers and dancers from the JeanAnn Ryan company were
all fabulous. The service on board the ship was some of the best we ever had. The staff in the dining
rooms, front desk, the cabin stewards, and the dive-in staff were all tremendous, as was the cruise
director and his staff. It seemed they were all trying to compensate for the in- adequacies of the ship.
Most of the other passengers I spoke to were not happy, and said they would not travel NCL again. I
can"t wait to go on my next cruise.
