We have cruised on this ship twice, the outstanding itineraries calling us back for more.
The excellent organisation of shore excursions in some of the more remote cruise
destinations, e.g. Zanzibar and Madagascar, attests to this Llines commitment to
destinational cruising. The ship is well captained and crewed, giving greater confidence
in its safety at sea. The cruise director and staff appeared to encourage and achieve a
sophisticated though intimate and friendly ambience. The food is characterised by directed
menus; whilst we were cruising these were Wolfgang Puck's of Spago's fame with a couple of
'Spago' meals on selected evenings. An additional restraunt served excellent oriental
cuisine on some evenings.
The ships decor is elegent. The guest lecturers are also excellent and give insights to
the ports of call - on our first cruise we had anexcellent ornithologist on our second a
retired diplomat with extensive far eastern experience.
On the less positive side, the cabins are smaller though adequate, but lack some of the
facilities of more modern cruise ships: hairdryers, fridges, etc. Drawer and wardrobe
space is good however.. A real negative poin tis the swimming pool, which because of its
design is difficult if not dangerous, to swim in other than in exceptionally calm weather.
Three jacuzzis make up for this somewhat.
I would love to travel again on the Marco Polo to see in comfort parts of the world often
only accessible to 'hardened' travellers.
