This was my first cruise. I can't wait to take another. The positives are almost too many
to mention. The staff was courteous, informative, patient and great fun. This definitely
carried over to my fellow passengers. I heard very few complaints about anything. I never
felt crowded or "shiplocked". I took four excursions. Our fist port of call was
Ketchikan where we took a jet boat into more shallow waters. The salmon were jumping in
full force and the Bald Eagles were abundant. The Salmon Falls Resort has a small but
interesting museum of local history and arts. And had we not had such a wonderful
breakfast on the ship, we would have enjoyed the quiche brunch served. Next was Juneau. We
splurged and took the Pilot's Choice helicopter tour. This was the most expensive tour
($221 per person) and worth every penny. In town we spent alot of time at "The Red
Dog Saloon". Great fun. In Skagway we took the train past the Canadian border. It was
very foggy that morning but what we did see was beautiful. In the afternoon we went
horseback riding. This is a new offering and Princess has chosen wisely. Well behaved but
spunky horses managed by knowledgable and couteous staff. On each of these excursions as
well as embarkment and disembarkment, Princess was there for guidance. We never felt lost,
and we were never at a loss for things to do and see. The next two days were at sea
through Glacier Bay and College Fjords. There was a Park Ranger brought on board as we
cruised each area. They announced points of interest and were extremely knowledgable.
Whale spottings were always announced over the loud speaker. So we didn't miss a thing. At
one point the Captain seemed to literally circle (a very large circle) around the whales
so we could all see them breeching and get lots of action shots with the cameras.
If there was anything lacking, it was good music. It was acceptable but I would have piped
in overhead music in the hallways and deck areas. The talent of the performers in the
nightly shows was pretty good but the lounge acts could have been better.
We didn't enjoy the early disembarkation hour but we sure enjoyed the early embarkation.
One's not possible without the other. All in all, if you ever get the chance to take this
trip, take it on the Crown.
