Undoubtedly the friendliest staff and crew I have ever met! They seemed to enjoy each
other's company and the
work they were doing more than I had experienced on any other ship, and this came across
to the passengers. The
week I was aboard happened to include Valentine's Day (The Love Boat National Holiday) and
so several celebrities
were also aboard.
The Patisserie was a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy a drink (the special coffees are
incredible!), to meet or just to
sit and people watch. Being directly across from the Purser's Desk there is always a fair
amount of traffic going by.
Yet at the same time it manages to be a fairly quiet spot where normal conversation is
easily heard. The Pizzeria
was also a lovely spot, but did get crowded from time to time.
Entertainment, especially in the piano bar, was quite wonderful, but I could see that much
younger people (say, less
than 30) would not find it quite so great. I did not really enjoy the big shows in the
main lounge as well as I have on
some other ships, but that is a matter of personal taste. The one show I remember
disliking featured acrobatics, and
I'm just not keen on that type of thing.
Service in the dining room was incredible. When we requested on the first evening that
something special (i.e. not
on any menu) to be served at lunch one day later in the week, the head waiter took care of
the matter. There was a
mix up, however, and the wrong item was served. We told the waiter and that evening the
Maitre D' gave us a
complimentary bottle of wine and cleared up the situation. It seems he had misunderstood
our order, and the next
day the proper item was served to us with a great flourish. We actually ended up ordering
special items on three
occasions!
I know that no cruise experience is perfect, but I really found nothing to complain about.
This was my fifth cruise and
it was by far the most enjoyable. So much so that I have just made a deposit for a ten day
Panama Canal voyage
on the Crown for this coming New Years.
