We had an excellent time. Princess provided excellent organization and service, and every
staff member we encountered was friendly and pleasant. Our
previous cruise was also a Panama Canal itinerary on Royal Caribbean and we enjoyed this
much more. Never felt crowded, plenty of space poolside and in
lounges. Food excellent in dining room; seafood options nightly; pasta course consistently
well prepared; service very prompt, dining room well arranged and
quiet. Hardly took any shore excursions as we tend to go off on our own, but the Stingray
City (Cayman Islands) and Dunn's River Falls (Jamaica) which we did
take were well run and a good value. Room service exceptionally fast. We had a mini-suite
and enjoyed the extra space and extra large veranda. Appreciatied
lack of formal receiving line at Captain's receptions (photographers set up several
different stations which cut donw on long lines).
Only complaints: eleven day cruise with only two formal nights instead of three; gym needs
more weight training equipment (though there are plenty of treadmills
and bikes); port selection only so-so (e.g. Porta Caldera, Costa Rica, has nothing to
offer unless one takes an excursion with a bus ride of a minimum of 45
minutes; Fear of crime scared many away from Cartegena).
Overall loved this cruise and Princess line. Any specific questions, feel free to e-mail
at nyeide@macconnect.com.

I arrived the day before in San Juan and went by cab to the Wyndham hotel which was right
across the street from the cruise ship terminal where the Dawn
Princess docks. The Wyndham was a nice hotel and quite convenient to everything. It has a
great roof top deck for viewing the harbor and ships.
Embarkation on Saturday morning was extremely smooth. I walked across the street from the
Wyndham to the terminal at 1145am and was in my cabin
(D201 - Inside) by 1215. I was unpacked and by the pool by 1 pm. Sailaway was delayed
until the wee hours (2:15am) due to late arriving passengers.
The first day was at sea. I had signed up for the New Waves Scuba Certification program,
so the first 3 days of the cruise were taken up by academic and
pool work on board. I only went ashore briefly in Aruba and La Guaira (Caracas). I did
open water training in Grenada and Dominica and then was
certified. The New Waves Scuba Certification program is first class all the way, with good
equipment and excellent instructors. If you like to cruise and have
thought about getting a scuba certification, I can highly recommend this program. The last
day was St. Thomas and I went sightseeing and shopping.
The food onboard was above average and I was quite happy with it. The service I
encountered in all parts of the ship was excellent. The only negative I
can think of was the main pool could stand to be cleaned a little more frequently as lots
of people with suntan lotion were using it and it was a little cloudy
by weeks end.
I stayed aboard for a second week and the itinerary was: Barbados, St.Lucia, Martinique,
Sint Maarten/St. Martin and St. Thomas again. I only booked
scuba dives in Barbados, St. Lucia, and Martinique, so I can't comment on the other shore
excursions. I went to Orient Beach in St. Martin and had a nice
time of it. I went shopping again in St. Thomas and then it was time to go home.
Debarkation in San Juan was just as smooth as embarkation. When my color was called, I
breezed through Customs, grabbed my bag, and was in a cab
and on the way to the airport in 20 minutes. I did not utilize Princess' transportation
via bus. The flight home on TWA was uneventful, until the end, where I
discovered my checked luggage did not arrive with me! TWA located it and delivered it to
my home the next day.
All in all it was a great and FUN cruise and I would do it again.
