Our experience on the Grand Princess was generally very good. The ship is truly
"grand" and handles the 2700 passengers easily one never
feels crowded or a sense that there are that many passengers on board. The food is good;
service is very good; the staff expeditiously process
passengers onto shore excursions with virtually no hassle. Our shore excursions were
excellent (with one exception when our tour guide left
much to be desired). Our one serious complaint was with our stateroom (B629 - supposedly I
category). This stateroom along with nine others is
located directly under the galley for the Horizon Court dining area. All night long, we
were kept awake by pounding, rolling carts, etc. Our
discontent was exacerbated by the continual denials by the Deputy Purser and his staff.
They first denied that we were located under the galley;
they then denied prior knowledge of a problem with these staterooms; and finally denied
any ability to reduce the noise or downgrade the
staterooms to Category K, etc. The Deputy Purser suggested that if we "couldn't
tolerate the noise we could leave the ship". Passengers located in
staterooms B616-B633 whom we spoke with had similar experiences to ours. In fact one
(B625) visited the galley at 3:30 a.m. with the Princess
"Night Manager" to stop the hammering during one particularly bad night. Again
we rate our experience as very good; it could have been
excellent given the ability to sleep or a little TLC.
