This was a marvelous experience-to be the inaugural season of
this beautiful ship. The itinerary was fascinating and all the
ports were friendly except Athens
which is anti-American. The ship is gorgeous and the service
wonderful. The cabins are comfortable, extremely quiet, and the
generous balconies made
room-service breakfast in port a delight. The ship is so stable
that motion sickness medication is not necessary.
Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired. Breakfast is
plentiful, but unimaginary. Lunch on the Lido deck had lots of
variety, but the food itself tasted fair
at best. The restaurants are a great idea, but the Painted Desert
(Southwestern) was terrible, and as a result, empty. What a
disappointment not to have any
midnight buffets and to have to pay for ice cream! Also, the
onboard activities are a bit of a bore. Too bad Princess can't
get beyond bingo and line dancing
lessons. The interesting things-virtual reality, miniature golf,
and more were available only with an extra charge. The virtual
reality was mostly out of order and
carried a $20 cover charge.
On the whole, a fun experience, but disappointed in the
diminished quality of Princess Cruises. Our next cruise will not
be on one of these mega-ships, but on
a smaller ship where they don't have to deal with the problems
associated with 2600 passengers.
