Having never been to Europe, we found this to be an excellent way
to get the grand tour and overall flavor of the area. Should we
go back, we now
might want to narrow our itinerary since we now have some
knowledge of several countries.
From the time we got on the ship everything went very smoothly.
We had been hesitant about the size of the ship since we have
enjoyed many cruises
on smaller ships. However, much to our surprise, it never felt
like we were with 2,000 people. It was really efficient the way
they sent tours right off as
soon as they filled a bus. Also, disembarking was scheduled off
according to your flight times.
We were really thrilled with our private balcony. It was so
wonderful to be able to step right outside at any time day or
night. We'll never forget sitting on
our balcony as we sailed into Venice or the time they announced
that we were right by an erupting volcano! Incidentally, for this
particular itinerary the
starboard side seems to have the advantage. Also, we were on the
Caribe deck and our balconies had about a four overhang as you
step out the door
which the other decks didn't have. It was definately more private
than some other decks.
Another happy thing we did on the balcony had to do with room
service. Every night we put our card out for continental
breakfast and it was always
delivered to our room on the dot, if not a little early.
Breakfast on our balcony as the scenery went by was wonderful.
The food was excellent in the dining room. The waiters and
servers were friendly without being cutesy. We were pleasantly
surprised with the Lido deck
food. It was of the same quality as in the dining room and it was
arranged in different stations so that you never really went
through a line, but rather
browsed about.
Our only negative of the trip was our air travel. We had a flight
canceled on the way and missed seeing Istanbul at all. Rather
than helping us to get there
on time, Princess wanted us to stay with the same carrier which
limited our options. We also had 2 broken bags. On the way back,
even though we were
on a charter flight they actually managed to lose one of our
party's bags! How could they do that on a charter!
However, despite the air travel, it was a wonderful cruise to
remember!
