The cruise overall was quite pleasant but there were areas both positive and negative that
stand out in my mind. Having recently cruised
with Celebrity lines, I expected a decent amount of cabin space. What I entered looked
more like an expanded broom closet. While the
room was adequate for a base of operations, it become claustriphobic after stays of
anything over a half hour. Another point for anyone
used to sleeping in a queen sized bed with their spouse, this tiny cabin had an L shaped
two bed arrangement that was both frustrating to
use and uncomfortable to sleep on. On the positive side, the entertainment in the show
lounge was top flight with particular kudos going to
a young classical pianist by the name of Nicholas von Bloss. The entertainers were
youthful and had a high energy level. The food service
in the main dining room was very good with excellent variety and a pair of waiters
(Antonio and Luca) I wanted to take home with me. I
have never been treated with such loving care in any restaurant in the world. I would say
one thing about the Pacific Princess. It has an
annoying tendency to list 5 to 8 degrees to starboard. When I asked the Chief Engineer
about it he just shrugged and said that it had
been doing it ever since it came out of dry dock. Overall, my wife and I had a good time
but if I had to choose another trip on the Med I
would do it in a larger vessel. Those 36 foot waves we hit in the Ligurian sea on the way
to Barcelona demonstrated how a small craft
(20,000 tons) can be tossed around.
