dining room food could have been better. lots of it and good variety, well served - wait
staff friendly and attentive.
breakfast buffet and salad bar buffer were excellent.
cabin stewards were very responsive, ship supplied terrycloth robes and there was plenty
of closet space.
shore trips were pricy, but most were excellent and shouldn't be missed - whale watching;
tour of kenai fiord (boat);
helicopter trip to glaciers; sea plane trip to misty fiord - all excellent. trail trip up
white pass was way overpriced at $89
per person. trip would have been okay had it been about one-third of that.
if possible schedule the week on land either before or after the cruise - anchorage,
denalli and fairbanks. in early
september, we saw the northern lights in fairbanks - 2:00 a.m. -- 22 degrees. incredible
sight.
The dinners could have been better. They sometimes tasted "off the
steamtable." Breakfast could be the traditional off the
menu in the dining room or a very good buffet on the deck. Lunch could also be off the
menu or a good buffet outside or
an excellent salad bar, also outside.
If you did nothing else, but sit and watch the panorama, the trip is worth it. The side
trips, however, shouldn't be missed.
We took a sea plane to the Misty Fjords where we saw bears on the edge of the shore
fishing for salmon. We took a
helicopter ride to walk on the glaciers. Another boat trip in the Kenai Fjiord was
spectacular - puffins, otters, eagles -
young and mature, seals, etc. The whale watching tour shouldn't be missed. The only side
trip disappointment was the
overpriced train trip up White Pass. Pass on that one.
The cabins provide plenty of closet and drawer space. There is also a terry robe for each
- a nice amenity.
There are so many activities aboard that you can hardly track them all. I'm sure there's
something for everyone. The
bridge players were out in full force.
If possible, extend the trip to the week on land through Anchorage, Denali (on the
scenicruiser train) and Fairbanks. Early
in September, we saw the northern lights in Fairbanks - 2:30 a.m - 22 degrees. If you left
your name at the hotel desk,
they would call you if the lights were out.
A truly spectacular trip for any age.
