The Star Princess is an elegant ship. It is definately not neon and glitz. The ship was
spotlessly clean. Our room, although not as big as I might like, was not as small as the
others we have had on previuos cruises. It had a good size window rather than just a
porthole. Our queen bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of drawer and closet
space. It also had a nice size refrigerator. Our room steward was very cheerful and was
always ready to help us in any way he could.
My wife, Bobbe, has a catering business, and since we are in the food service business, we
are usaully very critical of the food quality, food presentation and service in
restaurants. We found very little to compalin about and much to praise with respect to the
dining room food and service. Our waiter and assistant waiter performed as well as any
team that we have run into in the best of restaurants. They very quickly picked up on each
person's likes and dislikes and followed through for the whole cruise. Things like how
much dressing you liked on your salads, regular or decaf, etc. Our wine steward was very
attentive, however, she did not have very much training and was not as familiar with the
winelist as one might like. This was not really a problem for me, however, it is not very
good for those with less experience with wine. The overall quality of the food was very
high and the presentation marvelous. There was a tendancy to overcook the roasted meats,
however, Bobbe and I prefer rare to medium rare on almost everything and our waiter made a
special effort to find the rarest cuts he could for us. His comment as he placed the plate
in front of my wife was usally "moo". The veggies always had a bit of crunch
which is the way I like them. My favorite meal on the ship was the delicious King Crab
legs which were already split and opened up for you so there was no labor involved in
getting the meat out of the shells.
The Starlight Show Lounge on the ship is beautiful and one can see the stage quite well
from anywhere in it. The performances were great. It was apparent that a great deal of
care and effort was put into them.
Embarkation took us all of 30 minutes to get checked in. Then , after being given a quick
into to our room by our cabin steward, we made a quick tour of the ship. When we returned
to the cabin, our luggage was already there. Disembarkation was even easier. We packed the
evening before, after dinner and the show, and pu our bags outside our door before
retiring. The next morning, we left the ship about 9:15 am when our color was called,
picked up our luggage, had it checked in by the airline all the way home and were sitting
in the airport having coffee by 10:00am. Good Show.
I probably could go on and on, but I will just end by saying that Bobbe and I enjoyed our
18 days on the Star very much and would give it the highest recommendation.
