We spent 5 days coming down from Fairbanks before our cruise. Our travel agent suggested this would be the more relaxing way to do the trip.
She was right.

Boarding was a breeze- they have a separate area set aside for suite passengers. The suite we had (B748) was on the stern and there was
some concern about 'vibration' based on stories we had heard. Totally unfounded - I'd take a stern suite again in a minute, the view was the trip.

We were told that some shore excursions sold out early so we planned to be in line before 6AM. I read Paul Coles review of the same cruise - we
were about 50 people ahead of him in line and we found that the first couple of people in line booked for themselves and friends so tours were full
even before WE got there. This was a point we discussed with the Purser and tour staff. I understand their problem- there are just so many slots to
go around.

College Fjord was nice and the run to Glacier Bay took us out to 'moderate' swells of 12 feet the next day. Many people were seasick but those
little wristbands seemed to do the trick for most. I thought it was great- I walked decks many times that day and had the ship to myself.

Glacier Bay had to be THE highlight. Everyone should see and hear a glacier calving just once. The weather was perfect.

Skagway was interesting we met the police chief. Juneau was nice too we took a helicopter ride out and walked on the glaciers- that is another
must do. Ketchican was nice also there we walked the town and did a float plane ride to Misty Fjords National Park.

Food was good- akin to a good restaurant and service there was fast and efficient. Room stewards were friendly but appeared to be stretched a
little thin and service suffered a little for it. The ship was spotless and well serviced. We used the Spa several times and it was just ok.

We were told there were 2240 passengers on board- a full ship. To be honest I don't know where the crew hid most of them- it just did not seem
anywhere near that full.

All in all a great first cruise- and definitely the only way to see Alaska. Our travel agent had recommended Princess because she said they were so
consistently good to passengers. I can't argue with her on that one.
