We splurged on this cruise for our 25th anniversary and had high
hopes. Although it's a beautiful ship I don't believe that
it deserves the high rating that it gets. The cabin was lovely
but only as big as a suite we once had on the Windward (even
with the verandah included). Stability was great until we hit the
English Channel but even that was not as bad as it could
have been. The food at Don Vito's was great - much better than in
the dining room. Service was better at Don Vito's as
well and all in all, the buffets for breakfast and lunch were
better on that lido deck cafe than in the dining room. The
waitresses seemed in a big hurry to get us out of the dining
room. The only plus in the dining room was that there were
tables for two (by the windows) and we were lucky to get one
because we were early diners. The shore excursion
department couldn't get their act together. Our trip into Rostock
was a disaster, not at all what the description said it
would be. The Amsterdam museum/canal boat excursion left a lot to
be desired. There were many steps to climb in the
Riks museum, many senior citizens who could hardly make it and an
elevator that was not pointed out to them! Although
a currency exchange was supposed to be on board (we had our
travel agent check on this before sailing), the only thing
they did was bring a banker on board at some ports, but the hours
were not convenient. Eg. ship docked at 8AM and
shore excursions departed: currency exchange opened at 10AM. In
Germany no one would take USdollars! Ship personnel
were lacking in knowledge of the ship. When we asked at the
information desk about the retractable platform and viewing
room, we were told that the room had been removed because you
couldn't see anything underwater. Tablemates one
night told us that they had just been down there the previous
week (during the Stockholm to Copenhagen sailing) and
that indeed there was a room! Arrival at the airport in
Copenhagen could have been smoother. SAS was wonderful but we
and another couple (who had sailed with Radisson before) could
not find the meet and greet personnel. Return to the
airport in Lisbon was wonderful - very organized with a
delightful woman accompanying just the 2 of us through the
airport/customs maze. If the entire experience had reflected
this, we would probably sail again.
