First of all, we had a GREAT time. The flight to and from Tahiti
(AOM) were the worst that we have ever had. A DC-10 with seats
3-4-3 across, and NO leg
room. The shipboard rooms were very spacious, crew was attentive,
and food/drinks was very good. Since there were several 'young
adults' on board,
the disco was jumping every night. One disappointment was the
sports platform and scuba activities. The platform was only open
on 4 days and kayaking
was available only in the afternoon, when the winds came up, due
to lack of personnel. That's one thing I was looking forward to,
but never was able to
do when the water was calm.
Also, I was told by two different Radisson employees prior to
sailing that scuba diving was included, No additional charge.
NOT! I have been certified since 1970 and I did not make a single
dive on this trip. There were charges for scuba check out and all
dives. We did however
do plenty of snorkeling, which was EXCELLENT! The best snorkeling
was at the Sofitel Hotel on Huahine, where the beach and scenery
was BEAUTIFUL! If
you want to swim with the dolphins at Dolphin Quest, book it
yourself in advance. It was worth the $95. The waverunner
excursion was GREAT, and a must
do. Shark and ray feeding was also very good. I had heard the
dolphin watch excursion netted NO dolphins. The helicopter tour
of Bora Bora is also a
must! We had also rented scooters on Moorea and had a great time
touring around the island. Two shows on board the ship was with
local talents.
When
in Riatea, the children of Riatea (1 1/2 to 11 year olds) put on
an excellent dance show that should not be missed. Yes, that was
an 18 month old little
lady that stole the show. Then on the last night of the cruise we
were lucky enough to see 'O Tahiti Ei' put on a show, WOW! They
are a local dance
troupe that has placed first for the last two years in a row in
the annual 'Heiva'. If I could do it all over again, I would take
the 3 day pre cruise package
on Bora Bora instead of on Tahiti like we did, and I would
definitely take the Radisson charter flight on Air New Zealand. I
wouldn't trade a room with
balcony for all the rice in China. We had breakfast (room
service) every morning on the balcony and it was absolutely
incredible. One thing I was not
prepared for was the French attitudes toward Americans. Very
disappointing. The locals (Tahitians) were wonderful!
