Ship: Enchantment of the Seas Cruise Line: Royal Caribbean Itinerary: Western Caribbean Cruise
Date: Jan 30, 2000 - Feb 6, 2000
This was the first cruise for us. My wife’s parents also came with us and they had been on one
cruise before. We booked out own airfare (for half of what RCL wanted to include air) and arrived in
Miami a day early. We stayed at the Wyndham Airport Hotel. It was very nice with comfortable beds.
We rented a car from Avis because we could turn it in at the cruise ship port without any additional
costs. We had dinner that night at the Crab House which was a nice beginning to the amount of food
we were about to consume during the next 7 days.
We arrived early (11:30am) at the port and checked our luggage in and then waited until 12:30
when they started letting people board the ship. Once on board we went to our deck and picked up
our Super Charge cards, which are also your room key and your boarding pass to re-board the
ship. The entire process was very efficient, we had no complaints.
We were in cabin 7640 which is a category D with a small private balcony. It was close to the back of
the ship. We absolutely loved the balcony. It was well worth the extra money. The cabin was very
nice with the bed and a sofa, which also made out into a bed, a small refrigerator, tv, etc. There was
plenty of space for all of our clothes in the closet and drawers. Our cabin steward was great. After
the first night he noticed that I used a small pillow from the sofa under my regular pillow and from
then on we always had two regular pillows for each of us. He would also bring us extra towels when
we had a shore excursion where they might be needed. The service throughout the entire cruise
was first class.
At dinner the first night we met our waiter Ali and our assistant waiter Umit (he told us to just call him
George). They were terrific. The food all week in the dinning room was very good. If we tried
something we didn’t like Ali would get us something else. When I could not decide between the
salmon and the steak Ali brought me both. It was like that all week. My wife likes chocolate, and I
have never seen so many different types of chocolate cake. We ate breakfast a few times in the
Windjammer cafe but it was never as good as in the dinning room.
The entertainment and activities on board we very well done and there was always something going
on. The Not-So-Newlywed-Game was just hilarious, don’t miss it. The final Bingo game on Saturday
went for $8500, but we were not even close.
Day 2 - Key West We went on a snorkeling tour here. None of us had ever been snorkeling before.
It took about an hour to get out to the coral reef, and on the way they gave us instructions on
snorkeling and also on protecting the coral reef. We had so much fun that we didn’t want to get back
in the boat. Day 3 - Playa del Carmen/Cozumel The ship stop at Playa del Carmen only to unload
passengers that are on certain shore excursions. It then moves on to Cozumel. Those that got off at
Playa del Carmen take a ferry back to the ship when there tour is completed. We went on the Tulum
Mayan ruins tour. It was very interesting. For those that have camcorders they will charge you an
extra $5 to use it inside the ruins. By the time we got back to the ship we were too tired and hungry
to go into Cozumel and shop. Good thing to, because I watched lots of people come back to the ship
with lots of packages. We here a lot of good things from several people about the shopping here.
Day 4 - At Sea A nice relaxing day at sea. We slept in, had lunch, relaxed on the balcony, and just
plain enjoyed the entire day. Lots of activities were going on in different locations throughout the
ship.
Day 5 - Grand Cayman Here we did the Swim with the Sting Rays tour and it was a blast. The sting
rays were very friendly and would swim up against your legs. We took a disposable underwater
camera and got a few good shots. After we got back we went shopping. Both my wife and my
mother-in-law bought gold bracelets. My wife then found a blown glass shop with some very
interesting and colorful pieces. Another wonderful day.
Day 6 - Jamaica We took the Prospect Plantation and Dunn’s River Falls tour. We went to Dunn’s
River Falls first and got some great pictures of the falls before the climbing tours got started. You do
not have time to climb the falls on this tour. We then stopped at the Taj Mahal shopping center for
30 minutes to do some quick shopping. Actually this was enough time as we did not enjoy shopping
in Jamaica near as much as Georgetown. Then on to the plantation. The tour was nice and relaxing.
The tour guides were very informative. The tour goes up into the hills and there are some beautiful
views from there.
Day 7 - At Sea Another relaxing day at sea. Paid our money and tried to win the big Bingo jackpot
but it was not to be. The only problem with day 7 is that you have to pack your bags, which means
your cruise is almost over.
Day 8 - Back where we started Since our flight out of Miami did not leave until after 3:00 pm we
decided to try the Everglades tour instead of sitting around the airport. That was a good choice. The
tour takes you on an air boat ride and they point out the alligators along the way. They also give
you a lecture on alligators and even have a small one you can hold and take pictures with. It was all
very interesting.
Overall we had a wonderful cruise. We are already saving for our next one. We would certainly sail
with RCL again and would even enjoy the Enchantment again. The service was exceptional, the
food in the dinning room was very good, the Windjammer was ok, the hamburgers and hot dogs in
the solarium we also good but the pizza needs work. The entertainment was great, the activities that
we went to were fun and everyone seemed to be having a great time.

This cruise was an extension of our honeymoon from last June. Being the first cruise for myself and
my wife Emma we had no way of judging the experience from a comparative point of view. However,
having reviewed many net reviews and opinions of other friends whom have cruised previousely we
were pleasantly surprised at the value with RCCL.
We arrived and were a little slowed down with boarding the vessel due to some of the patrons not
having their forms properly filled out before boarding. This set us back about and hour more than it
should have from what we have hear bout boarding time. Once aboard the vessel we were amazed
at the enormity of the interior space! The view from the Centrum are from any deck level is
breathtaking!
Once my wife and I settled into our cabin we were greeted by our attendant Ricardo who saw to it
that all our needs were met. The room had a balcony and with the exception of having about 1/2
inch of water on it from just having been washed down for the departure the view was outstanding.
Having let Ricardo know of this flooded balcony situation it was taken care of immediately.
The food was outstanding, whether you dined at the Windjammer Cafe, the My Fair Lady dining
area, or had room service, the food was prepared with great care and was always fresh and well
presented.
There were some great bargains to be had in the gift shops on board and lady luck shone on my
wife as she hit the progressive video poker machine! All in all we are already making plans to do it
again. This time we are planning to go to the Western Caribbean.
Feel free to contact me at my email address if you have any questions about this vessel. I highly
recommend it!

This was our first cruise and we were really looking forward to it. We are both very busy business
professionals and have 1 week in the winter to escape. Pre-Cruise We had our own air
arrangements but booked the Pre-Cruise package. We took a taxi downtown for $17 where we were
booked at the Hyatt. The check-in was fast and we had a beautiful room on an upper floor
overlooking the river and the bay. We could see the ships from our balcony. That evening we
walked down to Bayside Marketplace for a relaxing dinner. In the morning we went downstairs in the
lobby where they checked us in for the cruise. This was also done very quickly. We were very
excited so we took a taxi to the pier rather than wait for the bus at 12:30 P.M.. We were able to
board the boat at 12:00 P.M.. I would highly recommend the Pre-Cruise package. The next day
when you board the boat you are relaxed, checked in and ready for your cruise.
Cabin We had
booked a category “C” cabin and upon our arrival we were very pleased with it. We had cabin 8588
on the back of the ship and the balcony was huge. We had 2 lounge chairs, 3 regular chairs and 2
small tables. The bathroom was a nice size with a tub. The room had the 2 beds that slid together, a
sofa, coffee table and 2 chairs. We were amazed at all the storage space in the cabin. The beds are
quite high off the ground so we put our luggage under our beds. We used the balcony a lot and we
would book a cabin on the back in a heartbeat. (Although it vibrates more when leaving port) Our
attendant was Patrick. He was excellent. We no longer left the room and it was clean. He attended to
our every need including taking pictures of us on our balcony on formal night.
Food We had the late
seating for dinner at a large table with 11 people. It was great. We enjoyed the evening
conversation with our tablemates. It seemed that they put us with people that had the same type of
cabin and were about our age. Yucell from Turkey was our waiter and he was excellent as well. The
food was good for dinner but not great. This is one area of the cruise in which we were
disappointed. If we cruise again we will be more careful on reviews of food quality. The Windjammer
was buffet style and was pretty good for a buffet. They made omelets, toast and English Muffins for
you if you wanted for breakfast. They also had Hamburgers, Fries and Pizza at the Solarium Pool
from 11-7. This was very good. We went for breakfast several mornings at the Dining Room and this
had a nice variety as well. When the Windjammer was closed, all that I could find in free drinks was
water and hot coffee and tea. there was never any lemonade or iced tea available as I thought there
would be.
Ports of Call Key West: We had to take a tender into Key West. We had been there
before but we went ashore and walked down Whitehead Street to the Hemingway House and the
Southernmost Point. We then walked back to town and stopped at Margaritaville for a drink. The
shopping area in Key West is quite big and it was very enjoyable. We stopped at a store and picked
up some beer and pop for our refrigerator on the ship and brought it back on board no questions
asked. We still bought drinks at dinner and the pool but it was nice to sit on our balcony in the early
evening before dinner and have drinks. (We a lot bought a couple of bottles in the ship store and
brought it back to our room) Cozumel: We docked outside of town in Cozumel. We took an $8 cab
ride to Chankanaab Lagoon. It was $7 each to get in. It was really nice. There were grass huts with
beach loungers and a nice beach to enjoy. You could rent snorkeling equipment ($5 for mask,
snorkel and fins) and snorkel right off the beach. Waiters came around and delivered inexpensive
drinks and food or you could eat at one of the outdoor restaurants there. Very relaxing!! We took a
cab into town and did some shopping and returned to the ship.
Grand Cayman: This was our
favorite island!! All passengers have to be tendered in. My husband went swimming with the
Stingrays. He said this was a great experience. We then went for a nice (but expensive) lunch at a
busy little bar at Eden Rock. You could also rent equipment and snorkel right there. (To get there
walk about a block south of the South Pier) We then went shopping. The exchange rate was $1.25
to $1 Cayman but the shops were were clean and nice. The island is famous for it’s rum cake in all
flavors and a lot of stores had free samples to taste. Jamaica: Although we heard many negative
things about Jamaica, we decided we would see it anyway. We had a great time!! We took a small
bus to Dunn’s River Falls for $5 each with admission $6 each. They dropped you off at the top of
the falls where you could rent water shoes to climb the falls if you needed them or do some souvenir
shopping. We decided at the last minute to go to the falls and regret not climbing them. It looked like
fun. A guide takes you up from the bottom. T
here is a trail with steps alongside the falls for
non-climbers. We took that to the beach at the bottom. It is a very nice beach and would be a great
way to just enjoy the day by the water. We were at the falls for 2 hours . In the afternoon we walked
from the James Bond Pier about ½ mile to the Taj Mahal for shopping with no problem. Activities:
Paul was our cruise director. The activities on the ship were varied as the passengers with activities
such as horse racing, a belly flop contest, best men’s legs etc at the pool. The days of sea were
busy. Even though passengers were told not to, most pool chairs were reserved by 8:00 in the
morning on sea days. People put everything from towels to shoes to books or whatever on chairs.
We did so also because we felt we had no choice. We were down to pool by 8:30 and stayed all day.
Many chairs sat all day reserved and we never saw anyone. This was annoying. It would have been
relatively easy to enforce this rule. The talks about shopping were informative. You did not have to
go to them as they were replayed continually on the TV all day. We went to some of the shows and
enjoyed them. They always had some special event such as 50-60’s night, western night etc. at the
Carousel Lounge.
The disco at the Viking Crown Lounge was not very busy but it was a beautiful
relaxing place to have a drink. They had a good variety of bars and lounges on ship that met most
everyone’s taste. Disembarkation: This went as smoothly as can be done considering how many
people have to disembark. No problems. Also, we took a taxi to the airport for check-in. It was a
zoo!! Next time I would pay for the transportation to and from the ship. Then you can check in and
check your luggage at the ship upon departure and save yourself some aggravation. Overall: We
enjoyed many things about the cruise such as our room with the balcony, the excellent service and
the Ports of Call. We were disappointed mainly in quality of the dinner food and In the lack of chairs
at the pool on the days at sea. We overlooked and joked about the constant sales pitch for drinks
and picture taking. If we do cruise again, it will be on a more upscale line such Celebrity or Holland
America that receives habitual excellent food reviews. But that is what cruising is about. There is a
cruise for every taste!! I took the time to do this review because I read many of your prior reviews
before we choose our first cruise and felt they were a tremendous help. Happy Cruising!!

This was my first cruise but will definitely not be my last. We had the air/sea program since we live in
Canada and it went fairly smoothly, although some of our flights were overbooked. Our departure was
from Miami, Florida and our ports of call were Key West, Playa Del Carmen and Cozumel (both in
Mexico), Georgetown (Grand Cayman) and Ocho Rios (Jamaica). We were amazed by the grandeur and
beauty of the Enchantment as we stood from the pier in Miami. Embarking the ship went well and you
could hardly notice the two thousand other people getting on. We were showed to our room, which was
on the second deck of the ship, and met our cabin steward, Paul. Instead of going through everything in
detail, I'm going to list the positive and negative things about this cruise. First of all, the food is
unbelievable, expecially the dinners in the My Fair Lady dining room. Our cabin steward was very efficient
and polite and had a great sense of humor. Everything was always impeccably clean. Our waiter was
Sherezod from India and he was great - always smiling and ready to get us any food we might want. The
nightly entertainment was awesome and so was the poolside music. Pretty much everything was
perfection on this trip. My favorite ports of call were Ocho Rios (breathtaking scenery!) and Cozumel
(great snorkeling). You might have heard many bad things about Jamaica, but don't let it get to you. Just
make sure you take only the taxi cabs with the word JUTA written on it! The negative aspects of this
cruise are few. I hated the fact that people reserved seats next to the pool all day long. The staff keeps
telling people not to do this, but there's nobody to reinforce it. I've seen people leave their towels on a
seat and then go do whatever for hours at a time, yet throw a fit if someone moves their stuff. This was
my pet peeve during the cruise. In all, I had the most amazing time. If any of you have any questions
about the Enchantment or the ports of call, don't hesitate to ask! My e-mail adress is
larooshka@yahoo.com . Hope you have fun on the Enchantment!

This, our first cruise, was an experience to remember. We are already planning our next cruise. My
brother-in-law and sister-in-law had cruised before with another cruise line. When we began planning, we
chose Royal Caribbean on the advice of others. It was advice well taken. We arrived at Port Everglades
around 12:15. We unloaded our luggage and parked our car. Now we were ready to board. Unfortunately, we
had to wait. They were letting those with the air/sea package go on in since they were already checked in.
This seemed kind of backwards to me. We had to wait to be checked in but they could go on through.
Anyway...we finally made it, got checked in and had our picture made before boarding. This was going to be
so much fun. We walked up the gangway to the ship and were finally on board. The view of the Centrum was
amazing. The beauty of that first view is something I will not forget. We found our cabin and were ready for the
adventure to begin. Our cabin steward, Felix, was great. He always had our cabin clean. After breakfast each
day we would eagerly return to see what creation Felix had made with our pillows. Then, just as eagerly, each
night after dinner we would return to take a look at the daily Compass left on the bed. This told of the events,
excursions, dining attire, etc of the next day. Not only did Felix keep our cabin nice for us, he personally was
nice to us. We saw him several times out on port and he always greeted us with a smile.
The food was
outstanding. Everything we ate was great. The casual dining of the Windjammer was perfect for breakfast and
lunch. We did eat a few times in the main dining room but preferred the buffet for those meals. Dinner,
however, is a must in the My Fair Lady dining room. Our waiter, Luis, and his assistant, Karl, were
EXCELLANT. By the 2nd night, Karl knew which ones in our group wanted tea and which ones preferred
water. Luis always had wonderful recomendations for us. He was a superb waiter. He could almost anticipate
what we would order. I would cruise the Enchantment again just in hopes of being assigned to a table served
by Luis. It was really sad to leave him. The ports of call were great. We stopped at Key West, Cozumel, Grand
Cayman, and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We had our first snorkel experience at Cozumel and liked it so much we did
it again at Grand Cayman. The water was beautiful, so clear and blue. I did not really like Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
I did not feel safe there. I'm sure the falls are beautiful; but, we did not have an excursion scheduled. Grand
Cayman was my favorite. We shopped for a while. After shopping, we ate lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. This
was very good. Our snorkeling excursion was GREAT. We saw Cheeseburger Reef and the wreck of the ship
Cali. The water was even more pretty than at Cozumel. I would definately recommend a snorkel excursion
while at Grand Cayman. There is so much to do on the ship as well. Bingo was fun and the casino can
become addictive. The not-so-newlywed game was fun to watch. I was not real crazy about the nightly shows.
The last night was pretty good though. I did not like how people saved chairs by the pool and never showed
up to use them. It was a really great vacation though. We will definately cruise again. I hope this review is as
helpful as all of the ones I read before we left. Happy cruising!
