The Legend is a beautiful ship and even though she carries 1800 passengers it never seemed
to be too crowded. There are plenty of intimate areas
for just sitting and reading. Be prepared for the average age of your co-cruisers to be
around 60. Many of the shows are geared to music from the
40s. Don't get me wrong, they still offer the traditional talent contests, discos and
other forms of activites but you will see a much older crowd than
you will on a typical 7-day cruise. We found it relaxing and low-key which is what we
preferred. We opted for this 11 day cruise from Acalpulco to San
Juan because we wanted to spend some time in Acapulco prior to sailing. We stayed at the
Acapulco Princess (offered as a pre-cruise pkg from RCI)
which was the most glorious place! Flamingos, swan, and peacock roam the 480 acres of the
tropical paradise. It is a little pricey at $419 a night, but
we had an ocean view, large room with balcony, breakfast included and a city tour which
included observing the cliff divers and also transfer from
the airport to the hotel and then from the hotel to the ship. Our cabin was great! It was
a suite on the Bridge deck with a balcony which was great for
the transit through the canal. The Crowning Touches package we purchased was worth the
$399. We received two terry cloth bath robes, a bottle of
Dom Perignon champagne (which we shared with our table mates), canapes delivered to our
cabin every evening prior to dinner, full body
massages for both of us, a champagne breakfast in bed, a small desset tray delivered to
our cabin each evening around 8:00 PM, an invitation to
the ship's bridge where we met the captain and received the red carpet, and an 8X 10
formal portrait in an engraved silver plated frame. Two
negatives- the airport in Acapulco was chaotic! Too many people and very unorganized. We
couldn't figure out whether we needed to claim our
luggarge at the airport or not. We were led to believe that represenatives from RCI would
take care of our luggage. Instead, we claimed our luggage
at the airport and then took it to the hotel where it was picked up the next day prior to
cheking out of the Princess and before leaving for the ship.
lWe were also disappointed in the food during this trip- it was not up to the standard
that we have grown to expect from RCI. The food was still very
good, but the selection was a little more limited than in the past. In the dining
room, vegetables are not ordered at the time you order your entree,
but instead are brought around after you receive your food and sometimes, had eaten over
half of it. Dessert was always very good and the
seafood was predictably tasty. Room service was timely and accurate. Diseambarking in San
Juan was a breeze. We took a city tour since our flight
didn't leave until 2:30PM. We left the ship in a large group, were taken down to the area
to claim our luggage, were greeted by a our own personal
porter who quickly helped us find our luggage, clear the immigration process, load our
luggage onto an American Airlines truck which delivered the
luggage to the airport and then we boarded an air-conditioned bus for a 3 hour tour of San
Juan. It was a nice way to kill some time since we
disembarked at 9:30AM and we had a late flight. Stabilization of the ship is excellent! We
had two days of (per the captain) 70 MPH winds and 15ft
swells and even though there was some rolling, I heard of very few people who were
seasick. My husband and I wore wrist bands on both occasions
and were not affected at all. Overall our trip was wonderful and we couldn't have enjoyed
it more! We plan to cruise again on the Legend through
Alaska and will alwyas choose RCI as we take a cruise once every four years and we know we
can count on RCI for a first class cruise experience!
