We rate Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL) the second best line we have sailed, next to
Crystal, and this
cruise the best of five on RCCL. Our accommodations (Deluxe Outside Stateroom, Category D)
were excellent.
The cabin steward was also excellent but we miss the days when your steward did everything
(cleaning,
serving food, etc.). When the steward only works during the day we feel that the amount of
tip recommended
by the cruise line is too high.
Our dining room waiter, a young Dutch girl, was superior. The food was
excellent, with good variety and preparation. This did not apply to the Pizza Bar in the
Solarium, however,
where the food was tasteless and the service mediocre. The other snack bars were
excellent. The bars were
good but the amount of liquor in the drinks rather stingy.
Evening lounge shows were above average and we
particularly enjoyed a performance by Jim Nabors. We thought the casino was very
imaginatively done to
enhance the sensations of space and activity. However, we have played slot machines in
casinos all over the
world and these had the lowest payout we ever experienced - we finally just quit. The
Cruise Director was
excellent, kept things moving, participated in all activities, and mingled with the
passengers. The shore
excursions were as good as possible since Hawaii doesn't have much to offer much in that
respect. We would
have enjoyed some tours to the luxury hotels - maybe two or three places in each port with
a drink at each.
All in all, we had a very pleasant experience and felt that the value was about right.
