This was the third cruise for my wife and myself and the first for our boys 10 and 14. We traveled the
Sovereign and the Nordic Empress. Both wonderful cruises. We also traveled with my sister and her two
boys, also 10 and 14 which was there first cruise also. The kids all had a wonderful time. Day one
Embarkation: Arrived at the pier at 12:10 lines not to long. When we checked in, My sister had questions
about the kids coke cards. The person had no knowledge of them even existing. I told her we can get
them at any of the bars. Staff at check-in weren't the friendliest people to deal with. Being on our third
cruise we should have gotten our crown and anchor discount. Because we got it on our second cruise.
After talking to many reps about the issue, they told us to ask for an upgrade when we checked in for
the mix up. Guess what no upgrade they passed the buck. Any way we were on the ship by 12:35,
brought our things to our room and went to lunch. Lunch at the Windjammer lounge was very good. Nice
way to start the cruise. The boys were awe stricken at the size of the ship and all the things that were on
the ship. After lunch we went to the pool to enjoy the warm weather. We just left boston which got about
5" inches of snow that day. After a couple of ours in the pool the kids were ready to explore the ship.
WOOOWWW was the comment they mostly made. I guess they were impressed. We had fist seating so
after our tour of the ship it was time to get ready. We had a window table #30 and our waiter was Chip
from tailand. If you read these reviews Chip GREAT JOB. We miss your service. Food was great. My 14
year old son spent most of his time at the basketball court and made a few friends. Since being on two
past RCCL cruises we enjoyed the midnight buffets EVERY NITE of the cruise. Even if you weren't
hungry it was still an event worth seeing. Taking pictures, then coming back in for the buffet. Past
cruisers no what I'm talking about. So before we left I was telling the boys how great it was to attend.
Well the first nite we were told that no buffet was served until the second nite. I'll get to the second nite
in a bit. Only finger sandwiches and pastry were served in the lounges. VERY DISAPPOINTING. It seems
that RCCL found a good way to cut back on something. After talking to other guest on the ship it seems
they were very disappointed in what the alternative was. Things must be getting tuff for RCCL.
DAY 2- Woke up in Nassau beautiful weather and scenery, Nothing much to say about the place other
than RCCL should find a new port. Hope you’re listening RCCL. Tonite was formal nite. The kids were
looking forward to it because of what I told them they did on our other cruises. You know for desert the
cherry jubilees set on fire at the table, then the singing waiters. Guess what wrong again, not on this
cruise. Other than the wonderful service by our waiter CHIP. The boys asked why they didn't do the fire
or singing. They were told that a waiter on one of the other RCCL ships dropped the jubilees on a
woman and got burned. Then RCCL had to pay for damages. I wonder how true that story is, since
other people on the ship say they still do it on other cruises. After dinner we decided to walk around the
pier to look at the Carnival Ectasy ship and the NCL ships close up. They all look pretty impressive. We
walked towards the straw market area, nothing open. Also just a note, for all of the ships that dock in
Nassau in the course of a week , you would think there would be better lighting for tourist to walk around
after it got dark. It's hard to feel safe with kids in a strange place with poor lighting. Tonight was dancing
under the stars with the Calypso band. We were a little tired waiting since they didn't start playing until
11:30 or so, but when they got going we got our second wind and really got the crowd going. It was a lot
of fun. Now I said I would get back to the buffet. We really enjoyed the band so much, that we decided to
go to the buffet in the windjammer after the music was over. Well when we went to the buffet, they were
closing the doors and told us it was to late to enter. Well that did it for my 14 year old. Looking forward
to A MIDNIGHT BUFFET on his only cruise, they closed the doors in our face . THANKS RCCL FOR
NOTHING, for making his nite. DAY 3- COCO CAY In the morning it was raining so we had to wait for our
day in paradise. It finally stopped and made to COCO CAY at about 11:00. Heaven, My sister and the
boys couldn't believe how wonderful this place was. We all went and signed up for the wave runners for
2:25. While my wife and sister got settled on the beach my son wanted to try the ribs, I also told him how
good they were from our previous trip. After we ate we joined the rest of the family at the beach. After
about fifteen minutes, they said everyone had to get back to the ship because of rough seas. What a
bummer. We were all disappointed but understood why we had to get back. At least my son was able to
enjoy one of the things that I raved about. If we waited for the others to eat lunch, he would have missed
it. Back on the ship needless to say it was crowded. It was only about 1:00 and the lines were very long
for lunch. Now I know on occasion that a day at COCO CAY is cancelled for rough seas. So you would
think that the RCCL would be BETTER prepared for lunch in the windjammer. They had only two food
stations open instead of four. After my wife was waiting in line for mor than a half hour, one of the staff
told the people that the other side was open with no lines. So her and many others made their way over
only to find out there was no food there only more seating available. After about an hour wait she finally
got some lunch. The pool area was crowded but Parker our cruise director did a Wonderful job of
keeping us entertained. The only down side of the afternoon was that the band never came on until
4:30 or so. Maybe RCCL should have a coupe of bands rotating on deck to keep there gust entertained
all day, because they sure don't have a problem with enough bar staff SELLING $$$ drinks. Oh by the
way you get quick service for buying drinks, but if you’re a kid with a coke card you might get
dehydrated before you get service at the bar. A final note: this was a vacation that the boys enjoyed
and will never forget. The staff on board was fantastic , As for my myself I direct all my unhappiness at
RCCL management for making what looks like cost cutting decisions. Maybe its time to find happiness at
sea in another port. This is one mans opinion, but was voiced by many.
