Overall, our cruise was a pleasant experience. Due to Hurricane Georges, we were unable to
go on our planned itinerary. We were to stop in St.
Martin, St. Thomas, and St. Croix, but instead we went to Aruba and Curacao. We really
missed the extra stop. There were too many days at sea
on this particular cruise.
Our embarkation went relatively smooth. We arrived at the port early, around 12:00. The
lines moved quickly until we reached the first picture stop
while boarding. The cruise line should not force everyone to wait in these long lines to
get their pictures taken. Not everyone wishes to be
photographed, especially after traveling all day.
Our cabin was on Deck 4 toward the front of the ship. It was large compared to the cabin
we had on our last cruise (on the Majesty of the Seas).
The only problem with the cabin was that the shower curtain stuck to your body while you
were showering. Maybe they could get heavier ones in
the future.
The food in the dining room and the Windjammer cafe were excellent. Our dining room waiter
and assistant waiter were both very attentive and
friendly. The head waiter, however, seemed sort of pushy, as if he was making his rounds
only thinking of his tip... conversation was forced, etc.
The service in the lounges was excellent, but the bar waiters were like vultures. You
would sit down and within a minute you would be approached
by at least 2 or 3 of them. You felt really bad if you didn't want to have a drink.
The shore excursions were good under the circumstances (a last minute change in
itinerary). But the staff was not the most helpful along those
lines. They were unable to tell us where to rent a car, etc. I do not blame them if they
do not go to these islands often.
The shows during this cruise were not up to par like on our previous cruises. We were told
that there was a new troupe. Maybe they were not in
sync yet... The comedian we saw was just plain bad. The best entertainment we found was
the passenger talent show and the karaoke. The band
in the lounge was also excellent, but attendance was very poor.
The pool was always crowded and people 'reserved' lounge chairs by placing a towel on
them. This was quite frustrating because all of those
chairs could not have been taken. They need to come up with a better system... The only
choice was to go up to the top deck for a chair where the
wind was so fierce that you couldn't stand to be up there for more than 10 minutes or so.
Disembarking the ship at the various ports was tedious. While tender service was excellent
and often, once again the photographers held up the
line. There must be a better way...
We will probably cruise again. Royal Caribbean sets high standards. The ships are
spotlessly clean, the cabins are comfortable, and the food is
excellent. They need to improve the entertainment and get the lines moving quicker (less
photographers, please!)
