I traveled with my husband, son and 19 friends. We did not expect
the porters throwing the luggage on the containers to place them
on board to outright
request a tip. Unsure of the customary, we tipped. The checking
in and boarding was very easy and smooth.
Boarding: Upon boarding, we went right to the luncheon served in
the Windjammer Cafe. The food was ok but nothing outrageous. The
cafe was
extremely warm so we suggest future passengers do not wear
anything too warm or dressy as the atmosphere is relaxed.
Cabin: Although we had boarded very early (Noon), we went to our
cabin right after lunch and our luggage was waiting for us. We
were very impressed
with the cleanliness and set up of the cabin. The only major draw
back was the shower that could have profited from an extra 6
inches of width. It was a
fiasco to shower since the shower curtain stuck to your body and
it was inevitable that the floor outside the shower would get
soaking wet. We noted that
this was definetly not made for large people. However, we found
out from much thinner and smaller friends in our group that the
same would happen to
them. The rest of the bathroom had sufficient shelf space and was
not unconfortable. Closet space and drawer space were adequate
for a short cruise.
The bed was extremely confortable including the softness of the
linens. My husband and I have problems sleeping and we slept the
whole night without
waking up once. Our cabin stewart, Bob from Nicaragua, was very
nice and attentive to our few requests or questions. Our room was
made up twice a
day. His service was definetly a 98.
Dining Room (Carmen): On the first dining room experience, I
found our waiter a little put out and hurried in taking our
order. By the third evening, I
finally understood that I may have mistaken his personality with
an attitude problem. Overall, his service was good. It took me a
while to warm u to him.
Our assistant waiter, a young fellow from Portugal, couldn't do
enough to please us. His service was extraordinary. The head
waiter was a bit obnoxious.
We enjoyed the singing waiters show.
Food: The food presentation was good. The food quality and
portions, although ok, were nothing to brag about. In order to
feel completely satisfied, you
had to order at least 1 out of each category.
Midnight Buffet: The midnight buffet was adequate and filled up
the vacant spot left by not a fantastic dinner. This helped hold
you over till breakfast.
Entertainment: The show in the Strike Up the Band Lounge named
'It takes Two' was most enjoyable and it incorporated song,
choreography and humor
very well.
Purser's Desk: That's definetly the place to go if you have any
doubts and for most of your requests. Courteous, friendly,
helpful describe the crew at this
desk.
Shops: I found most of the mechandise to be overpriced with
exception of the liquor shop. The liquor prices are a bargain and
the clerk tending to it was
very nice.
Casino: Tough subject....somehow, I found it great during the
first 2 days while I was still playing with the winnings of my $2
investment in the slot machine.
I say machine, because I concentrated on one for the first 2 days
that I may have runned it dry. I even had people standing behind
me just to see what I
would hit next. I, also, tried my hand at Blackjack and did well.
Of course, the last day I managed to loose it all!!!!
Staff and crew in general: Overall I found that the staff that
may be overlooked the most, such as assistant waiters, cleaning
staff, cafe clean up crew, etc.
were the most friendly and courteous and deserve to be noted for
it. Most of them were young and you could appreciate the fact
that they wanted to do
their excel in their jobs. The coolest bartenders were definetly
by the pool bar. They were fun whether you ordered a drink or
just a glass of water.
Overall cruise experience: It must have been good as we are
already planning another one for next year. Hopefully, we'll be
able to do a week's cruise
on another Royal Caribbean International vessel.
